I have recently started going to the gym and I got a programme made out. I am seeing improvments already but I feel that if I want to gain serious muscle I need to put on a bit more weight as I am quite skinny. I am aware that I should be eating protein but what exactly should I eat 7 days of the week in terms of real food rather than 5grams of this 9 grams to that etc... Any input much appreciated!

Post up your diet and we'll see where you can make changes.
I had to change my ENTIRE eating habits before I even thought about building muscle. As a result,I look and feel so much better.

Right. Well I usually start with breakfast which is usually just a bowl of corn flakes or cereal or something. This would usually tie me over until lunch time when I eat again. I would usually eat anything at this time of day. Sometimes I would have pizza, pasta, chicken, turkey and ham, and usually some vegetables or when I am in college just a roll or something. I would also on occassion eat Indian food for lunch and usually get some dish containing chicken. Then in the evening I would eat something similar again but different to what I had earlier. I may also eat chips ,eggs beans etc. I wouldn't eat the much fruit in a day but do on occassion. I probably need to eat more if I want to put on weight to build up muscle but it's hard to know where to start as I have never really thought too much about what I ate but rather just ate it!

Thats an awful diet for somebody looking to gain muscle. You really need to look at the diet and nutrition sticky.
