From indo (shadda been the sindo!)
Demands have been made for the immediate closure of a "lurid" sex cinema in Galway.

Fine Gael Councillor Padraig Conneely said he was shocked to discover that such a cinema -- apparently the first of its kind in the country -- was operating in the city.

The 24-seater cinema is located behind a sex shop called Jade Winters at the Liosban Industrial Estate, on the Tuam Road on the outskirts of the city.

"There are 24 seats and patrons pay €12 admission. It is staffed by two men from eastern Europe and all efforts to contact the owners or manager have been unsuccessful," Mr Conneely said.

"Patrons are asked whether they wish to watch gay or straight porn films and there are a number of small cubicles in the cinema where customers can watch specific films. It all sounds quite lurid and it is not what we want for the image of Galway. We are a city of culture, not of sleaze."

    Sound quite sticky too.

    Mike.

That things been there for years apparently. There's no harm in it, it's certainly not forcing people to go to it.

Some people just need to get with the times tbh.

The floors in normal cinemas are sticky enough as it is without this malarkey.

This was on the front page of one of our local papers this morning... I was honestly shocked, you'd swear we were still living in the 1950's or something the way it was written, blithering about "Sec-crazed" patrons. (Damn, that rolleyes smiley wouldn't been perfect here!)

    Plus, re the following comment:
We are a city of culture, not of sleaze.

Hate to break it to ya Mr Councillor but the two ain't mutually exclusive. If anything, arty, cultural heads are often pervier than Prince on a particular horny day...

This brings to mind the whole "art versus porn" debate...

I think so but why go to a strip club? All teasing and no result?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,382 ✭✭✭✭AARRRGH

    All teasing and no result?

A company I used to work for used to bring us to strip clubs on our work nights out. (Weird, I know!)

One of the delusional nerds I worked with used to believe the strippers faniced him and that they wanted to give him lap dancers for free later in his place.

    What a weirdo.

    /That's all

Sex shop, casino, porn cinema - Galway is a licentious pit of immorality. Damn why don't I live there? They never advertise attractions like these.

oh you poor poor uneducated councillor.

there are 3 in Dublin, (Dorsat street, James street and I do not know where the third is) rumoured to be good dogging sites for the curious sort (or so I have read ) hence the appeal of them.

    Boards.ie trip anyone?

Heh, Keith Lynch, the editor of the rag, is taking a page from the fairly lurid style of Kernan Andrews, political commentator from the Galway Advertiser, Galway First's sister paper. The paper always was going for some sort of a half cocked tabloid market in Galway and tbh the whole article is pulling the piss.

The same fellow was arguing for legalisation of drugs a week or two ago.

lol, that just reminded me of a time when I was in Amsterdam!

Myself and a mate went into one of those peep shows but there was only 1 booth free. So I throw in a guilder and the window pops up - these windows are 1 way, sort of frosted glass where you can't really see the people viewing behind them unless they are up against it and then it's only a shadow. I can see the girl on the rotating bed, however what caught my eye was the window directly a cross from me, I could see a silhouette of a man letting one off, very distracting. So my time runs out and I leave but before my friend could go in some other dude jumped in. So my friend was left waiting again until a booth became free, which just happened to be the one opposite... the dude had done a serious painting job. Needless to say my friend gave that one a miss and waited for another. In the mean time, this poor dude came a long with bucket and mop... what a job, poor lad
