I was just wondering what your opinions are on punch bags. I hear lots of people saying about how it gives you a total body work out and wonder is it a good exercise even if i never intend on competing in a fight???

To be honest, beating the crap into a punching bag might be a welcomed change and they dont look that expensive either?

    Your thoughts please?

I hope to start using mine again soon, I use to do 2-3 sessions a week, just too busy training for other stuff. Yes its a good work out if you know what your doing. When I start back I will have hour sessions based on what I learned over the years. Do you or have you ever belonged to a MA or boxing club? I ask because if you don't I reckon you won't develop the session and keep at it.

Yeah..... looks like a good workout alright.

No,i dont belong to a boxing club but tbh, i dont really plan on fighting at all. The punch bag just seems like something different i could try.

In that case I would suggest you ask the guys in the SD/MA forum to recommemd some dvds. I may be wrong but I imagine if you not constantly learning and imporoving with your work out you may get bored with. Hope this helps.

They're great for getting rid of stress, even if you haven't a clue what you're doing. One thing I'd recommend is learning how to wrap your hands properly. You can really damage your hands if you go hell for leather and don't have them wrapped.

I have a link somewhere which I'll dig out for you.

edit: How to wrap your hands.

I used that for ages and it works well. I prefer the Thai style now though (it focuses more on padding your knuckles). Have a squizz on youtube. There's a video on there showing you how to wrap your hands Thai style.

This is probably true. Just banging away would probably get boring after a while. Learning to kick properly, boxing combinations, that kind of craic would all help keep you entertained.
