    Guys,

Anyone ever bought a pair of squat shoes ? Could you recommend a pair?

Anyone know of anywhere online I could buy a pair ?

Squatting with my runners at the moment. Not a great idea tbh.

    Cheers,
    Brian.

Cons are about your best bet for all round training shoes. They're bullet proof and last forever (I've a pair almost 4 years that are still wearable!!). Some of the heaviest squats ever have been done in them.

Failing that Adidas Adistars or Ironwork II's off pullum sports are a good bet.

When is the latest Adidas pair coming out? I remember hearing (think you told me!) they bring out a new pair for each olympic?

Thanks for that. What exactly (brand) are Cons ?

Yup that's generally what they do. They usually release them for sale after the games. Nike have their shoes out on trial with a few people. Kirsten Yukness off EliteFTS has a pair that they sent her.

What's the difference to ordinary shoes?

The cons have solid flat soles that won't squish under weight and they've really rigid sides which'll prevent you rolling over on the side of the shoes.

Squat shoes have a slightly raised heal which is generally made outta wood!

This isn't going to matter to 99% of the gym going population unless they are moving serious weight, or am I wrong?

Normal runners aren't likely to cause an injury are they?

I hope not. I do all my lifting in a tatty old pair of Pumas!!!

Nah, it doesn't matter, you're right!!

But if someone WAS looking for a pair of gym shoes, you really cannot beat high top cons for their all round versatility. They're relatively cheap, and they last FOREVER too.

but the more solid your base the better especially if you are doing some of the more dynamic stuff like heavy cleans or snatches or if you have any existing knee or ankle issues.

    Ok cool. Just checking!

Yeah - thanks! Those shoes seem to be for the pretty serious lifters.

When you're squatting you are applying a force against the ground.

If you have Nike Shocks on then you are applying a force against the ground through a lovely squishy base. Not ideal.

When I lift in weightlifting shoes the difference is noticable, particularly at the bottom.

I'd recommend anyone into weights get a pair - I've just nabbed a pair from ebay.

Was it an auction for one off or does the seller have more ? link ? :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,577 ✭✭✭Colm_OReilly

I got mine on auction, just happened to be lucky that my size was there when I entered "weightlifting shoes" into the search.

Courtney's just purchased some adidas ones from here: http://www.pullum-sports.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=122

Now if my shoes don't fit me I'll offer them up and buy another pair from these people

Are sizes here the same as for UK ?

Yes, they reckon it's better to take your shoe size over your runner size.

I was lifting in DCs for a while and they were okay- flat soled, rigid, good. I've switched to Cons now though and there's a massive difference when I clean and squat especially.
