    What exactly are they for and what do they do? Should you use them? Do you use them?

    Ive nothing to back this up but personal experience.

    I use the Sauna, followed by the Plunge Pool/Cold Shower and then Sauna again. It really helps my recovery after a hard session.

    perhaps you are mixing sauna up with steamer room

    I usually go steamroom>>coldshower>>sauna>>coldshower>>jacuzzi:D

    Might be just coincidence but I did a fairly tough session on my chest/arms the other day and didnt use the sauna/steamroom after, I was more broke up than usual, hmm:confused:, like I said, probably just coincidence.

    I hear its good for your skin and the steamroom is good for the lungs or something, no expert opinions though

    They supposedly ease sore muscles and minimise DOMS etc.I use the one in TF Blanch and it actually does seem to work.Some of the jets are very powerfull and would be somewhat akin to getting a massage after a workout.There's one part of the pool in particular that has jets that are just the right level to massage the lower back,very handy after a round of deadlifting.

    a cold plunge pool will help recovery as it reduces swelling that can be caused by microtears after workouts, just like an ice pack, heat does the opposite and is not good straight after workouts (if injury or severe microtears happened) for the opposite reason, maybe not so bad if your injury free but not beneficial anyway!!

    sauna's and steam rooms make you sweat and this can detox you! replace the lost fluid with water and its great, also they are relaxing giving you mental health benefits, overall there great!!

    I thought the cold plunge pools and ice baths are there for a different reason. From what I'm told, the cold water causes the blood to be drawn away from the flesh and muscle, into the centre of the body - the aim being to reduce the amount of lactic acid produced.

    Anyone actually in the know here?

    The blood been taking away from the muscles stops swelling, lactic acid is cleared from your body easily and most people who talk about it dont know what there talking about-if it stayed around for any lenght of time it would poison you! Plunge pools speed recovery by reducing swelling the way you say but nothing got to do with the lactic acid.

    i want a cryogenic (spelling) bath.... just to see what there like.... but cold shower or plunge pool is the way to go after a hard session...

    I did a few cryotherapy sessions down in Wexford before, I wasn't injured really so I couldn't comment on their effectiveness but it's a good laugh if you're not in there on your own!
