Tinned Vegetables - Yay/Nay ?

Stupid question but bear with me -

On reading the stickies it say to consume a lot of veg, prefereble green veg. Unfortunately I dont have a lot of access to this and am not a big fan of it anyway. So if I were to eat green veg 3 times a week would it be alright to replace with tinned veg on a few of the other days.

Last night for example dinner consisted of -
1 Tin Peas (Packaged in Salt/Water)
1 Tin Kidney Beans (Packaged in Salt/Water)
    5 Boiled Eggs
    3 Small Chicken Fillets
Small amount (8 - 10 small cubes) Cheddar Cheese

    The Night Before was -
    1 Tin Sweet Corn
    1 Large Portion Spinach (Fresh)
    4 Boiled Eggs
    3 Small Chicken Fillets
Small amount (6 - 8 small cubes) Cheddar Cheese

Dinner is the biggest meal for me as Lunch and that isnt practical to bring as theres no fridge here in work and it can get very hot.

So basically my questions are -
    (1) Is canned veg okay or should I try to limit it (Sweetcorn, Kidney Beans, Peas mostly)
    (2) Am I eating too much late at night (I eat this directly after lifting if that makes a difference)

    Thanks in advance !

Nothing wrong with them at all, but always look for the "No added salt/ sugar" options. Green Giant for e.g. have this option for their sweetcorn. Much like frozen veg, tinned vegetables will often have better quality vegetables as they are packaged soon after picking, unlike "fresh" produced which may have been flown half-way around the world before landing on the supermarket shelves.

If you eat right after lifting your body will be primed to use the calories you give it in the best way - I'd suggest avoiding the cheese (fat) though, after a workout you just want plenty of protein and carbs.

No problem, the only reason I add that in is because I have a liking for cheese is all :) Ill keep it for another time instead.

Thanks for the quick reply !

Tinned Veg as opposed to no veg = Yay.

For things like chick peas or butter beans or kidney beans, definitely go for tinned.

Tinned tomatoes often have better flavour than fresh (unless you grow your own).

If it's hard to buy fresh green stuff, I'd be inclined to buy frozen broccoli, spinach, brussel sprouts etc.

I am presuming you mean over dried? In the last few months tesco have had their own brand frozen chickpeas and kidney beans.

I keep tins of peas and beans for after the pub, rather than filling up on total crap in the chipper, quick and easy to cook and filling.

Yes, I used to cook with dried beans, and it always involved lots of soaking and then hours of boiling, especially kidney beans. Much easier and sometimes safer to open a tin.
