starting weight will be different for everyone.

just start lifting, too heavy then reduce weight, too light increase weight.

When I started lifting I was 68kg's and progressed happily to 139kg's.

How did I do it...I ate and trained...mainly ate my way to 139kg's.

Started off thinking 30kg was struggle for 10 reps about 2 years ago. Continued on in that trend, hitting 40-50kg lifts eating like a bird for a solid 13-15 months. Started eating lots of food and I got pretty darn fat I also got up to 1x110kg and 10x90kg in a few months. Eating/nutrition is way more important then lifting

How long have you been lifting Will? Doubling your body weight is impressive.

When I first started I was 106KG, twas a mess. But I didn't lift properly then, just bench and curls haha.

I managed to take my weight from around 5/6kg as a one week old baby to 103kg now 21 years later......

In all seriousness, I was around 70-75kg I think when I got started at around 17.

Will, what sorta bf% were you at 139kg? And where are you now....?

I started lifting when I was 17...but was a runner then...I used to compete at about 68-72kgs at 6'2''...a bean pole. Hit 140kg a couple of years ago as a fat but reasonably hard training coach. I fluctuate between 100-105kgs now.

Most of us have been there at some stage.

I was going to make that same joke...but thought the doubling of BW since I started lifting was as funny....and I'll stand by my choice.

Starting weight of around 70kgs and very lean. Took up weights as part of rehab for an injury and got hooked.

Now I'm walking around at 78kgs and hazard a guess that I'm defo sub-12% BF.

The first time I benched - the bar fell on me at 50kgs, Ouch! I think we've all been there.

Really depends on the person! I started on 35kg 6 months ago and can now do 8 reps of 55-60kg doing 3-4 sets. Progressed quite nicely :). I've moved up really well in all the exercises that my trainer a few months back set out and I put it down to hard work & much better eating, you are what you eat! Also, I'd advise anyone starting off to get a trainer for at least 2 months to get a good program. Expensive but a huge help and the best wat to start off I feel.

I used to be pretty scawny all through secondary school and first 3 years of Uni, probably around 60 to 65kg. From 4th year onwards I got into doing a bit of weights and gradually increased up to my current weight of 75kg. It's heavy enough for me at 5' 7''.

    I'm 6'1 and 75-78KG...

lift about 65 at the moment, started off last year lifting 30KG at 63KG BW...

pretty happy with my progress, very little body fat added... 10KG BW and double 1RM (yeah I know it was LOW, very low to start with but Im working up to benching BW at a decent pace...)

again, it was all in the food.

Very similar- was about 65kg before starting lifting. Up to 71kg-72kg now. Not a huge difference, compared to some others, and still relatively slight, but definitely filled out a bit (in a good way). Height 5'7", BF c. 8%. Would like to add 2 or 3 kg more...

those numbers are pretty pointless unless you say what lifts they apply to.

We all know it's either his bench or curl numbers... and since it's too high for a curl, Im going with bench ;)

Yeah its Bench ^ , sorry I thought thats what we were talking about in general here. 16 KG or so with dumb bells for hammer curls

I went from about 135 pounds (9.5 stone, 61kg) when I started lifting to 170 (12 stone, 77kg) today (at 5 10"). Took me about 3 years though. Did a lot of arsing about and trial and error for a long time (while picking up a few bad injuries in the process) but I'm gaining consistently now and I think I'm on the right track.

May not be very impressive figures but if I was a boxer I'd have went from a super featherweight to a super middleweight! :D

OP, don't get too hung up on what other people weight or lift (or say they can lift). Set challenging goals but don't get disheartened if you don't break the scales immediately

I started weighing about 70kg I'm now around 60/61/63 depending on hydration levels/time of the month etc.

    I could pull 50kg, now I can pull 100kg

I high squated 35kg, now I can squat 65kg ATG with more in the tank

    I didn't bench coz I didn't have one, it's my worst lift now - I can only bench 37.5kg.

Hoping to pull double bodyweight in the next 8 weeks or so, that'll be my number one goal achieved! :)
