Can't pronounce r's

Whats it called when you pronounce your r's as w's, is there a medical reason for this or is it just a bad habit ?

Well it's a phonological difficulty which is the professional way of saying that you can't pronounce the sound.

/r/ is the last sound that a child acquires developmentally, usually up to the age of eight is the normal range. After that, it's considered atypical and seems to be the hardest sound to work at in speech and language therapy because of the position of the tongue - retroflex and tip curled up towards the roof of the mouth. Over time, it does become habitual and most adults who can't say /r/ will say it as /w/ as in 'wacing wabbit' or Jonathan Ross style.
