I was wondering what cardio would be suitable to undertake alongside a bulk up.I have heard HIIT is advised, but I'm not really into that at the mo!Any alternatives!?

Also, using calorie calculators online I have learned that my maintenance level is 2305cals.So what should my increases for bulking be like?I plan on doing either 6 week or 10 week bulk..SO what should my increases be like?Maybe increase by 400cals each week for first half, then decrease by 400cals each week for latter half?

I could do with some advice so if ya can help,I'd appreciate it!:)

How heavy are you at the moment?? 2,300kcals sounds low.

If you're gonna bulk, I'd say spend AT LEAST 8 weeks at it. And in all honesty 12 would be better again.

I'm 142lbs.Ya I probably will go for 12 so!Would you recommend 12 straight or a break in between?

I've been doing a lot of running in the last few months for cardio and some fat loss,so that is why I haven't been eating so many cals but I just wanted to get back at the weights seriously for a while!Btw I'm 17 and 5''10.Last bulk I did was in Jan/Feb..was a bit of a disaster diet wise but I have that prob ironed out this time round..just trying to find out caloric needs on a daily basis, and subsequently on a weekly basis.

Are you takin shakes or just eatin lots of food?

2300 does sound low, where did you calculate it?

    I'm 20, 5"11 and 145lbs and mine is around 3750

How much cardio do you do? Are you doin it for fitness or fat loss? The extra calorie-burn will make bulking a little harder, so maybe cut it down, or out, then raise your fitness levels when you start your cut

eroo u sure u need a 'bulk' as it were? ur only 17 so presumably pretty new to weights? Just up the calories eat as much as possible post workout and at breakfast dont think you need to put too much thought into it.....also bulking these days has kinda bad rep for natuural muscle buil;ding as in it is somewhat thpught to be unnesecarry something like carb cycling might be better cris thib had good artivcle on t nation bout it

Are you trying to add lean muscle mass or lose excess bodyfat? It sounds like you are trying to do both simultaneously? That probably is not the most productive way to go about it.
I have heard HIIT is advised, but I'm not really into that at the mo!Any alternatives!?
Absolutely...what you are considering is probably the absolute worst type of cardio to do while you are 'bulking'.

I don't understand what you are trying to achieve with this?

Why don't you list exactly what your goals are?

No I'm not attempting both simultaneously as it would be a waste of time!I'm trying to add muscle weight.

Absolutely...what you are considering is probably the absolute worst type of cardio to do while you are 'bulking'.Well what would you recommend?
I don't understand what you are trying to achieve with this?I have read that your body may stop gaining after a couple of weeks,as if it has adapted. So I was wondering should alternate calorie numbers every few weeks?
Why don't you list exactly what your goals are?Well I would like to add maybe 8-10lbs of muscle weight in 6 weeks.I'm going with 6 weeks as that is the max amount of time I can devote.Basically I want to add on a couple of lbs of muscle to bring up my weight.I'd be happy getting to 154/155lbs.The reason I'm doing this is I have the Leaving in just over 3 weeks,so I'd rather focus on weightlifting for a while as I can't be going for hour long runs 4 times a week, time consuming..study:(:pac:.But the overall point being I plan on applying for the Gardai next year so I would like to weigh a bit more.Obviously that is a while off,but I want to try another 'bulk' now,as a sort of 'feeler'.As I said I tryed one a while back but my diet wasn't up to scratch. This time I'm going to change that. Then come winter,I'll do a MUCH longer 'bulk' and then get back on the cardio when I apply. They are my goals!:)
Btw,Arsenal I've been doing weights alongside cardio for about 17 months now:)

I really think you're looking too much into it. Your 17 or 18, just train consistently, eat nearly everything you see and make sure you get plenty of protein.

That'll work. If you start adding fat then you can look at your carb intake and timings and all that but for now JFL and JFE, it's more fun and waaay less hassle.

It is hard to be anything but general when it comes to advice on the interweb but I think a lot of the posters here have pretty much hit the nail on the head. Eat well and consistently and train hard and smart and the fact that you are only 17 will take care of the rest.
