My rugby season ended in March, and i had the same problem. I'm a hooker, and with next year in mind i am currently running for 30mins a day, 6 times a week. With no access to a gym, i cant do weights, but i make do with crunches and push ups at home. If your a back though....... maybe you could run for more than me.

If your into doing weights I'd advise spending till the end of this month doing something like injury correction exercises, ie work on shoulder, ankle, knee, groin injuries with lot's of core work.

What we did last year was spend June doing hypertrophy usually decreasing sets of 12,10,8 (2 day split twice a week), July was strength (6-8 rep range)(3 day week), August was power training(2 sessions), September we worked in 2/3 endurance sessions to complement our cardio.

Best thing is just plan back from Mid July-August and go throw various stages, don't bother with endurance cardio to be honest, if anything you should be solely concentrating on speed work and mechanics. Work at getting to top speed as quickly as possible, increasing top speed and finally top speed endurance(that'll come to you during pre season)

Are you just looking to get fit or do you need to bulk up? Are there any glaring deficiencies in areas of fitness for you?

Well i would regard myself as fairly fit, i got 735 metres in 150's the other day, i hope use know what im talkin about. I just dont want to lose any fitness, well i wouldnt mind losing some i just dont want to start off as were i did last season, thanks guys so far, im taking notes and taking them to the gym :D

Yeah im pretty fast aswel only thing i need to work on is getting to top speed faster any hints, i was doing some 30 metre sprints and 10 metres hopefully that will work.

Also im am looking to bulk up abit, is there any shakes you would recommend, i am a scrum half so naturally i want to stay quick footed and preferrably slim ;)
