I think this is a good idea and maybe it could be stickied.
Anyway, I think I am going to win:p:p. Blackbelt is pretty sure he is, he will owe me a beverage of my choice:) when I win. So how about it, this is who I have for this weekend.
    Ulster SHC
Cavan v Monaghan = Cavan by 3 points
Fermanagh v Tyrone = Fermanagh by 2 points
    Connacht SFC
New York v Leitrim = Leitrim by 9 points
    Leinster SFC
Longford v Westmeath = Westmeath by 4 points
So how about it, let the games begin!!

Ok, so I may be a little biased on this one but sure aren't we all. However I think you are completely out on your Cavan v. Monaghan pick. Don't let Monaghan's poor league finish fool you, these lads still have a lot to give this year. My prediction is swaying from draw to Monaghan by 1 or 2 every time I think about it. Ok, a definite answer: Monaghan by 1 solitary point it what will probably be a rough encounter. As for your other predictions, I'd probably go along with those.

Monaghan had a good league and finished second to South Down. I just have a sneaking feeling Cavan will win in the cut and thrust of the Championship, I could be wrong but its a hunch.

Either way, it should be a good, close game. Still a little disappointed at the loss in the final. It seems they just ran out of gas. Enjoy the weekends action!

Where did either of you get the idea that you even had a chance  I am going to win my title back :D

Not so fast,I was 5th last year and forgot to change my prediction on Cork v Meath which led to my downfall and in the hurling pool,my blue glasses got in the way of that title.

CW,your regression reminds me of the Wexford senior teams...will you lose both titles in the same day?? :p:p

I've joined the fun this year although my predictions for Ulster might be slightly biased. :D

Oh mine are biased too, lucky i'm from kerry :D

I got the Westmeath result wrong by one point. My Ulster Hurling predictions were wrong though, I knew they would be close and could go either way. Hopefully Leitrim can take New York :). How did everyone else do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

I think nearly everybody went for Westmeath and the inevitable unfolded at 5pm.So thats some points in the bag already.I'm not too concerned about the hurling,I am not expecting all my predictions to be right there.Ulster hurling is a wild card.

So that means we are level Pride Fighter for our little bet.:D:D:D

PS. How bout we make that bet 3 pints.:)

We are only one game through the season, I am sure I'll be victorious at the end. Two drinks is fine, I dont want you to waste your money :D:p

When Donegal win Ulster, my lead will be unasailable. :D

Alongside me :D Though I thought I had it til you caught me with a late surge.

I'm already 6 points down this year though, propping up the table on a big fat 0 after I forgot to put my predictions in until Sunday evening, and so missed out on a few handy points with the Westmeath and Leitrim results. Playing catch up now but there's a long way to go!

I wouldn't expect the table to change much after this weekend either. These first few matches are very predictable.I suppose the only match on paper that could upset some people is Cavan v Antrim.

It could happen, I have prdicted Derry to do a Donegal this year (win the league and be useless in the championship) so they will only have Monaghan, Tyrone and maybe Armagh as contenders. Wont happen though IMO.

Not with Seanie Johnston playing. I wonder if you are going to have some textual jousts with Lemlin this year:D.

Who knows Pride. From 2005-2007 we did have our battles so it is up to him if he wants to come out of hiding. He'll know where to find me.:D:D:D

What can he say when Cavan are gone by mid July though, and thats being kind to them. I think he has a chip on his shoulder for us Dubs, we will have the last laugh come September (hopefully).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

I'd prefer to hedge my comments as far as we're concerned but Cavan will invariably be gone by July unless they can re-package themselves like Monaghan have done or just have a good run like Louth but July should see them go out.

Seanie Johnston is good but he is no Thomas Freeman, Cavan, Down and Antrim are near the same level and are a good bit behind the rest of Ulster.

Very true although Down are a team that I'd expect to emerge before Cavan and Antrim.Down and Fermanagh are pretty similar.Wouldn't be too surprised if they pulled an upset or two.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,602 ✭✭✭patmac

There should be an overall competition as well with the Hurling and football combined.

I'd also rate Down and Fermanagh a bit ahead of Cavan and Antrim. Sunday's Antrim v Cavan game is effectively a battle to decide the worst team in Ulster, which only shows how far Cavan have fallen. It won't even be that much of a surprise if Antrim beat them. Either way the winners won't be going much further.

So i just put a fiver on a accumlative bet for the winner of each province, based on my pools predictions in football. 171 Euro back if i'm right!

Kerry, dublin, monaghan and mayo. Sure tis worth a try.

So Fermanagh beat Monaghan. That's two Ulster matches and I've got both wrong. :o

Not to worry as next week Donegal v Derry will make it third time lucky for me. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,742 ✭✭✭blackbelt

3 matches going against me so far...Wicklow v Kildare and todays matches Clare v Waterford and Fermanagh v Monaghan.

I think most people would have lost points in two of those games at least.Just like the match I refereed today, the points table should be pretty low.Thank God I didn't tip Monaghan to win Ulster.Bonus points still up for grabs.

    8/8 in the hurling:D

I must have been drunk doing the football pools this year, or else extremely unlucky  :pac:

But at least my own county Laois held their side of the bargain and lost by 17 points for me in the hurling :(

so just to clarify the rules, If a team loses and you had em down for the provincial finals can you amend your predictions.

basically can i change my predictions for the round two matches now that half of the teams i went for aren't in it?

this is why i only bet small money. I expected more from monaghan. at least i won a 20/1 bet on munster winning heinekin cup from the start of the year. pity i only bet five euro on this too.

I stuck €50 on Fermanagh at 6-4 to qualify for the next round :) Shame I didn't take them at 7-2 to win :o
