So I have decided I am going to compete in a juniors comp next year.

I don't think I'll compete in the nationals in October because I am not big enough and need to do a bulk and cut but I am heading away for the summer and want to be ripped so I might set my sights on the Waterford show in 2009 as it will give me time to get up to standard. Just wondering what everyone thinks after the summer I am going to put everything into this

I will have legs pics up later night, even though I hate them :( I am working hard to get them on par with the rest of my body though

    Latest pics

What sport are you planning to compete in ?

It's just not clear from your mail - because I don't think looking ripped for the summer is a sport,,, oh wait...

Your upper back is stupidly big in that second pic. Looks like you're lacking a big of thickness in your erectors tho (think I said tha bfore).

Any chance of bigger pictures and legs?

Hey cant get the pictures any bigger cause its my camera phone.

Couldn't get legs pics tonight cause none of my mates were up in the gym and thought it would be a bit weird to ask a randomer. They're improving but very slowly.

Slightly off topic but Michael Cravez is planning on competing in the junoirs this year and he has put on more mass than I have ever seen anyone put on in such a short time. He is up 17 and a half stone of mostly muscle! He is going to do a 16 week cut now which will be interesting to watch. You could pick his brains about it.

Yea he is massive, not quite lean but looks good. I think a year ago he was only like 13 and a half stone!! With your pics i think it is more to do with the fact that you are squeezing in and up rather than spreading your lats.

jesus 60lbs in one year thats pro standard genetics right there, he could go really far if he keeps at it!!

I'm at about 14.5 stone right now, going to bulk from September to March and am hoping to put on 30lbs then was thinking of giving myself 12 weeks to cut for Waterford show, do you think that would be o.k or would I need more time cutting wise

I really just want to bulk now but don't want to be a lard for the summer vacations!!!

oh and how do you do the lat spread?

I'm not really sure how to do it, do I put my hands on my waist or bring them in front of my stomach?

do I lean back or what?

    thanks

Hey man, as Mickk said ill be competing in this years NABBA's Junior division. It will be my first show so im looking forward to it and get some experience in the process :).

Just my 2c with your pictures, Shoulders and Traps look good and Upper back looks thick. You could do with more lat width and lower lat work to tie the lats in altogether to create a good taper, id recommend doing weighted pull-ups to build your lats; wide grip for width and narrow grip to work to the lower lats. It's quite hard to judge your arms with the quality of the pics, it just looks like your right arm looks much bigger compared to your left arm (although this could be down to posing).

I know what you mean about legs, my legs were very poor as i started squatting late and i find they are difficult to add mass. Personally iv found that legs respond well to size by doing volume programs like GVT (German Volume Training) and up until quite recently i tried this leg program, by the end of the program i managed to add 1 & 1/2 inches to my thighs and my quads, hams etc felt alot more thicker.

Just some pointers/advice that helped me:
    - Don't worry about being lean: eat alot and eat often. If you train hard and eat alot of good clean food then fat gain wont be huge. Although eating crap isn't necessarily bad and good to sometimes getting calories in. You need to put on mass and the cut will get you lean. I would be currently eating about a minimum of 5000 calories a day
    - Train the entire body: since i started to train for the competition i started doing exercises to hit areas such as the serratus. Bodybuilding will be about presentation of the body so it would be good to go in knowing you hit everywhere.
    - Experiment with training the body: try adding more volume to your workouts, decreasing sets & adding workload, mix exercises per week, split training or total body training etc. Basically train each bodypart in a different way to figure out which method that gives the best results and then stick with it.

I saw your older pics and you have a good build, better than what i had when i was 18! :D. You seem to have the mindset for it and you are already doing a cut which will help you later on if you decide to do the Waterford show. If the Waterford show is in April next year and you plan on bulking after summer then i don't see why you shouldn't be able to bulk up and then cut down. I only started training specifically for the competition before Christmas which gave me about 4 1/2 month of bulking and 4 months of cutting. Personally i think you should go for it, may as well build up experience while your young and you will still even have 2-3 years in competing in juniors!

Anyway man, all the best with it, anymore questions fire away will try my best to answer or PM me

Hmm not an easy answer, this is the only video on youtube I could find that shows the progression from what you are doing to a lat spread.

Thats actually either a ripped bicep or a genetically high insertion, OP did you ever rip it? Matt Serra from the ufc has something similar.

Don't think I've ever ripped it though in the pic it looks much worse than it is it is still smaller than my other arm, think im gonna start doing one armed curls on the machine on my bad arm to bring it up

is there anyway to fix that??? what exercises specifically target lower bicep?

    thanks again

It looks like one is inserted higher than the other, as if one starts in your elbow joint and the other an inch or two up. You can address size imbalances but not where the muscle is attached to the bone... (people will tell you lots of bottom preacher work or hammer curls but it wont change the insertion)
Take a pic of your arms straight down by your side but flexed and make sure both your palms are facing the same direction and it will show whats going on.
