What is it that gets you motivated for a work-out?

I have to say I need music with a good beat, or my interest starts to dwindle. That, and if I've used the same music a little too much.

And another question if you dont mind, for those of you that do need a little music help - what do you listen to?

Any input would be suuuper ta! :pac:

The desire to look good and be a bit stronger than your average joe motivates me.

Seeing my younger lighter brother lift more than me is another.

Personally I love metal n rock so I like some heavy drum orientated music. The cliche stuff really, Pantera, Metallica etc etc

Could we sticky a what motivates you/what music you like training to thread?

    They're cropping up quite often.

If I'm running then anything with a decent beat to it, something housey or some rap/hip hop. I don't listen to music when I'm in the gym.

    1. The desire to give 100%
    2. Knowing that my main rivals are breaking their balls in training
    3. Meeting my coaches targets
    4. Not letting the people who support and make sacrifices on my behalf down
    5. Because what else would you be doing, sitting on your h*le watching Ford Super Sunday down the pub?
    6. The knowledge that every workout counts and a half-assed session now will bite me with 10m to go in a race in the middle of July
    7. The weird voices in my head:D

This is the angle Im coming from, and I just want to be healthier.
One thing Im finding very hard to curtail is the drink though :/
I don't listen to music when I'm in the gym.
I dont know how. I feel really awkward when I dont have my moosic with me :o
The weird voices in my head
lol I wish I had 'em too. Music or not, Im sure they'd keep me in check! :D

    Motivation:

Knowing the harder you push yourself the better you're going to feel at the end. Also watching the Rocky 4 training montage too helps too.

    Music:

My favorite album to work out to is "Renegades" by Rage Against the Machine.

    • Knowing that training makes me healthier, stronger and faster than the majority of my fellow humans.
    • Knowing that I can zone out during training, refresh and come back with new ideas for whatever I was doing beforehand.
    • Knowing that exercise will help me de-stress & sleep better.
    • The raw feeling of power.

I don't listen to my ipod when in the gym or running/cycling. I find it feels odd and I dislike not knowing where the various muppets in my gym are and what they are swinging/dropping nearby. If I did it would be Megadeth, Metallica, Rage... actually maybe I will bring my ipod next time.

how on earth could you listen to music when doing weights? It would be so distracting. I have to fully concentrate when I'm doing squats for example. Music would distract me. During cardio it's good though.

Bit of angry music can sometimes help me get and extra rep out, but then again I'm very easily wound up.

+1. Don't listen to music during gym either - kinda awkward when you're moving about - don't really get it. Especially as you've got music pumping out from the speakers as it is!

    1. The endorphin release after a hard workout.
    2. Constant challenge.
    3. Look and feel better.

For me, working out was one of the self-treatments I took on to combat depression. IMO it's one of the best thing that a sufferer can do and each day it helps me feel good about myself.

As for music, I've gone from needing my iPod all the time while exercising to only using it rarely. I much rather being lost in my own thoughts or concentrating on the tasks at hand. Oh, and talking to the chicks... and not jsb's kind!

    the endorphin release
    the totally wrecked feeling afterwards
because I feel better physically and psychologically if I get off my ar5e and do something
that feeling when I'm running along and in my stride after slugging along for the first couple of miles
the feeling when I've pushed myself an extra mile
knowing I'm fit and WANTING to maintain it

I don't listen to music anymore. Now I just day dream.
