this just arrived in my new age post.

slight improvement on make believe but this new experimental kind of phase makes the CD sound disjointed as neverly every song is different.

one song is very like that green day song that was like 5 songs in one, only it doesn't really suck even though it has crappy weezer rap in it.

    Better than Maladroit? Green Album?

I've heard Greatest Man That Ever Lived, some parts I really like, some parts not so much (spoken word part ;) ) . I would love to hear the rest, any chance of he prime minister sorting me out I wonder? :D

i don't really want to pass judgement on it, as with weezer i tend to get caught up in this huge whirlwind of excitement of a new album only to be bitterly disappointed.

i've only listened the whole way through twice, and apart from one or two minor things it sounds fairly promising.

Heard Thought I Knew aswell, its a nice little tune. Would love to hear the rest ;)

i only have a radio promo that's just the 10 tracks and has a big sticker, do not reproduce yadda yadda.

No problem, I may have got the first 8 tracks ;) . Will have to wait til later to dl them though. What are the last two tracks like? Is Automatic any good?

troublemaker and Heart Songs both great tunes , pig my personal favorite so far , i didnt like maladroit at all and only just liked make believe, so of the 9 songs i heard from it so far this for me is a return to form but i wont be surprised if a lot of people dont like the album,

seems there will be 2 versions, a 10 song standard and a 14 song deluxe
+ i tunes will have an additional 2 songs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 269 ✭✭Boo-yah

After hearing the 8 songs available, the album definitely has its highs (The Greatest Man That Ever Lived, Dreamin') and some lows (Cold Dark World) but overall I'm really enjoying what I hear so far. Troublemaker and Pork and Beans are incredibly catchy, Heart Songs is incredibly cheesy but in a really sweet kind of way. I thought I would hate Everybody Get Dangerous and why I don't love it I think its a fun bit of stupid rock. There are some cringeworthy moments (stop rapping Rivers :D) but Im enjoying the album and I'm looking forward to the last two songs and the load of bonus songs yet to be released.

Heard a couple of songs off this now and it actually seems like a step up for Weezer after a couple of mediocre albums. Really like Pork and Beans (seems like their early stuff) and the Greatest Man that Ever Lived (amibitious song... and pretty successful too). Hope the rest of the album lives up to those songs, and while neither is a Pinkerton-era classic, certainly superior to Make Believe stuff...

What are the chances of them coming over this side of America in the summer to tour the album?

Would give a limb to see them live.

I'm sorry, did I confuse "red" with "blue"?

based on their recent output i won't be buying this.

Well they were over twice during the Make Believe tour so could well happen. Fantastic live act. Would indeed be great if they come back (although would have been cool to be at the Vicar Street gig - it was either that or Ben Folds the night before, and I chose the latter which was fantastic, but meant I only got to see Weezer in the Point :()

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 269 ✭✭Boo-yah

Fingers crossed they come back to play live, the two gigs here were fantastic (especially Vicar St.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

yeah i sold my ben folds ticket to see weezer, i don't regret it, as imo the vicar street gig just edged the point gig. i then got to see ben folds last year.

they will come back for sure i think they were taken aback by how fast vicar street sold out (3 minutes it was) and that was why they were back so soon.

Cremo, have you heard the last two songs on the new Weezer album. If so, any good, how do they compare to the other tracks etc.?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

i won't spoil them for you...

    i'll only say this...

angel and the one is longer than the greatest man but shorter than only in dreams.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 152 ✭✭rivers

greatest man that ever lived has really grown on me. i didnt know what to make of it at first...but it all fits together really well, even rivers rapping.
troublemaker reminds me of the good life, and its another grower...
as for heart songs, its a bit cheesy, but i like the palm muted build up towards the end 'back in 1991...'
pork and beans is a good one, but it could have done with a guitar solo thrown in there...as for the others, havent really made up my mind yet.

but all in all its feeling good. I wont say a return to form, cos i thought make believe was good, except for a few songs towards the end...

here's hoping they come back and do a couple of gigs in vicar street again. i caught them the 2nd time in the point, what a gig that was...

king however :(, scott should just never sing he's a terrible singer

Agreed, Scott shouldn't sing lead. Good backing singer though.

Just heard today a song at the radio. Who listened the new album? Is it good?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

it's okay, weezer are never going to write another great album.

i've listened to the 10 tracks (not including the deluxe edition etc.) for quite some time.

    and it's very mediocre.

it's great in places (the greatest man that ever lived (if you ignore the police sirens :())

it's good in places (dreamin' (i preferred the older daydreamer song title for this)).

it's disappointing in places (the angel and the one, it's 6 minutes long with a long meandering 2 minute outro that goes absolutely nowhere).

it has some of the worst things weezer have ever done (everybody get dangerous and cold dark world). although they are only slightly better than beverly hills and we are all on drugs.

weezer will always be known to me as the band that got me into quirky guitar rock but they are a shadow of their shadow of their former selves, and as Rivers said about a band called Ozma "they are beating me at my own game" he was totally right.

i'm just hoping for Alone 2: the home recordings of Rivers Cuomo, as the first home demos album was great bar from "this is the way", thank god they left that off the red album.

pork n beans is growing on me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,919 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

Pork and Beans is feckin quality. Reminds me of earlier Weezer. Also, if you can get over the lyrics, Heart Songs is a really nice song.

Only listened to the album fully twice so needs more time. Can't see it being more than a 6 out of 10 though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 269 ✭✭Boo-yah

Heard the 4 bonus tracks over the weekend. Ms. Sweeney is better than any of the 10 songs on the regular album!!! It may be weezer's best song since Pinkerton. Pig is also great, The Spider is a tad repetitive but it's really grown on me and the lyrics are good . King isn't my cup of tea but its 10 times better than Cold Dark World. Apparantly the other two bonus tracks, It's Easy and I Can Love are pretty good too. Could be another case of Weezer leaving their best material of the 10 track album :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,584 ✭✭✭✭Creamy Goodness

yeh heard the bonus tracks over the weekend.

    quite ok-ish tbh.

ms sweeney - i really like what rivers was trying to do here, it's a good song lyrically and musically, i just don't know about the vocal delivery, just sounds really jilted.

pig - i liked the demo of this that was floating around about a year ago, they've made it way better by just making it HUGE. drums make this song me thinks.

the spider - it's ok, not great not bad but ok, it was said that freak me out on make believe was written about a spider, perhaps this is the polar opposite spider song :p.

king - would of been good if rivers sung it and sung it with the same conviction he did with pinkerton songs. scott has a good voice but i just don't want to hear it for a full song.

they've also seem to be doing a load of covers for b-sides and uk bonus tracks, i heard the weight (the band) cover, and it's actually quite good despite it sticking closely to the original which i despise in most covers.

I actually love his vocal delivery on Ms. Sweeney, especially the verses. The harmonies on the chorus towards the end are great too. If Pig and Ms. Sweeney replaced two of the dodgy tracks on the regular version I think we'd be looking at far and away weezer's best album since Pinkerton. Still a good few more bonus tracks to be released too :D

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 30,019 CMod ✭✭✭✭johnny_ultimate

Seems to be a helluva lot of different versions of this album being primed for release - all this talk of bonus tracks makes me dizzy.

So theres the standard, the deluxe (four bonus), the Itunes version (six bonus) and possibly a UK version with more bonus tracks. Woah.

    Seems a bit unnecessary?

This is the wrongest thing ever seen in print (slight exaggeration perhaps) The Vicar St gig was absolute ****e and devoid of any energy and far and away the worst performance I've seen. The Point on the other hand, they were far more up for it, and only the Leeds festival in 02 beats it imo.

As for the new on...doesn't instantly capture me bar one or two songs, but none of the other did either at first.

I actually must say I really enjoy this album. The first six songs do be brilliant IMO, and then it has some very good moments thereafter. Always like putting it on, yet another Weezer album that brings continued smiles to my face.

Its growing on me slowly, but I haven't been hugely impressed by their last effort despite giving it a lot of time.

Weezer could release a CD of themselves farting into a microphone and I wouldn't mind at this stage, because the earlier albums have cemented their place as one of my favourite bands.
