Was wondering if 32 is too old to take up rowing? I did a bit when I was younger, nothing fantastic but understand the basics. Not looking to go to the Olympics, more for a way to get myself fit and have a bit of craic, but I do know it still takes a fair amount of training. Would be interested in getting people's honest opinions

Hey man - 32 is definately not too old to take up any physically active sport if you're not planning on competing. Go for it!

It depends on where you are. If you are in Dublin then I think Neptune R.C. in Islandbridge do adult lessons in the summer.

I certainly hope 32 isn't too late to take up rowing. I turn 32 next week, and I'm not done with it yet by a long shot! With a little looking around, you should be able to find a club and a crew that finds that balance of ambition and craic that you're looking for. Also, you're location (?) will narrow down your options a fair bit!

That link to the IARU that Rower4life posted is a good starting point for the river rowing, but if you're anywhere near the coast, you should consider coastal rowing as an option (larger boats, row at sea, you get the picture). You'll find more information and links to clubs at http://www.coastalrowing.net/ .

As for me, I row with St. Michael's Rowing Club Dun Laoghaire, who you'll find at http://www.dunlaoghairerowing.com/ . If you're within spitting distance of Dun Laoghaire and fancy giving it a go, we'd be happy to hear from you. The contact details are on the website.
