    Name your favourites
    Or your least favourites??

    Personally i like
    • all the Bistros on Kierans Street (.. mmm steamies!)
    • the Park (sometimes)
    • and the Shops.. like Pennys
i hate the traffic and all the tourists there lately.. (no offence to the tourists but it annoys me when they ask you for directions to Rothe House.. and Rothe House is right infront of them and they've been standing outside it for 10 minutes looking for it...)

    So what are yours?? :)

Thats another thing i dislike about kilkenny..

althought it hurts to say it.. i suppose credit where credit's due...

    3 things I like:

    * the cat laughs festival and the buzz it brings to the place
    * the castle
    * the size - it's not too big and it's not too small, just right!

    3 things I dislike:

    * hen and stag parties ruining my Saturday nights
    * bad drivers (kilkenny seems to have more bad drivers than the rest of the country
    * lack of 3d level education and the extra businesses that would bring

I visited on holiday three years ago and i think its a great wee town.

    Pros. 1. Paris texas restaurant.
    2. that shopping centre, market cross or something??
    3. Friendlyness, like dundalk is pretty friendly but i couldnt get over kilkenny.

    Cons. Lack of night clubs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭mymo

love... the pantry(great staff and good food, not bad prices either)
... shops are great more small shops than most towns it's size .... and the castle and it's park.

don't like ..... lack of public transport around town especially to St Luke's and there's loads of estates now just a bit to far out. I'd happily pay couple of euro's for bus to avoid traffic. .... Late night drunken idiots wrecking stuff for fun ... Traffic jams I don't live in town but I'm in town sometimes 3 days a week, often takes 10 mins to get out to roundabout.
That said it's still a great place!

"Crap nightlife"??? I thought one of the things about Kilkenny was that the nightlife was, if anything, too good.

    The road out of it.

    That's not limited to Kilkenny.

I remember when I was learning to drive, the person giving me the lessons started off by saying:

Rule No. 1: Never trust ANYONE on a roundabout.

    How right they were!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

Oh I know! I was just feeling particularly angry after nearly being killed on the Dublin road roundabout for the 3rd time this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,484 ✭✭✭✭Stephen

That roundabout really pisses me off since the new ring road was opened. Now if you're coming from the Hebron road roundabout to the Dublin Road one, sitting in the left lane trying to continue on towards Loughboy, there is ALWAYS some bastard in a van on the right lane that skips the queue and tries to force his way off the roundabout through you

I'm pretty sure late opening will come back in the next couple of weeks with the summer months. I know for certain that a couple of shops have started opening late again.

    Good:
    - The festivals... Cat Laughs, Arts Fest, Rhythm & Roots.
    - The Pumphouse (especially the Barflies on Sunday nights), Ryan's, Anna Conda, Cleeres (The only places you ever get good music)
    - The bus to Dublin...

    Bad:
    - No club with good music. We used to have the Zoo years ago but it's all ****e boy-racer music now. The rest are a horribly outdated cheesy nightmare.
    - John Street and the thugs who infest it.
    - F*ck-all happens outside of the summer months.

as a frequent but aged visitor i think Kilkenny is one of the nicest places in Ireland and this is from a Tipp born person. Most people outside Kilkenny sing its praises so locals please appreciate your city. I am somewhat surprised that few if any people mentioned the beautiful Black Abbey
