I would say to download opera mini for a start - it's free and widely regarded as the best mobile browser by a long chalk.

Also Nokia have a free podcast app - do a search for "nokia podcast"

Just use the Nokia links too. They're already bookmarked on your phone.

Check out www.zedge.net for themes etc.

Divx player to watch clips/movies...(when you google "divx nokia mosh s60" you get a good version...).
Handy Taskman is a great taskmanager (like on your pc)...you can switch between programmes, keep track of memory consumption, and kill programmes that freeze etc...it's not free, but a must in my opinion....

    well,...
www.handango.com have hundreds of programmes for you to check out - most can be tried out...

    www.symbiangear.com similar...

www.mosh.nokia.com - nokia user share site (themes, some programmes etc...)

Thanks a million for that will check them out. Is there anything I should get security wise for it?

"securitywise" as in anti-virus? Imho: NO!

i don't think there is a virus thread for s60 phones - sure there are antivirus programmes, and it's of course the developers' dream to get the mobile market, but search the web: mobile virusses??? I believe some businesses cover their asses and fall for the advertising, and they are afraid their employees' smartphones might infect their networks or..... But: If you follow threads on other forums where someone claims the phone has a virus, it usually turns out to be some other problem. Threats come mostly from dodgy sms and some applications that without your knowledge dial out/access the web,... So: careful!
Antivirus programmes on phones really slow down the phone as well - they are very ram-hungry!
Other security? There are apps that let you block your phone by sending it an sms should you lose it/have it stolen... You can get apps that let you encrypt/lock specific files/folders/applications - in case you have nosey mates/co-workers etc....

the sites I listed are well organised by categories, so again: play around/try out...

you should check how much it it will cost you to use data with your operator and what data packages are available (if any)...

if there are no high-volume operator data packages available check if you have wireless internet available in any of the locations you regularly find yourself, configure your handset to use this facility while in this location (to save you any operator data costs)

Cheers for that I got the data package from vodafone but they said it won't be active till my first bill so am trying to be careful!

How do you know which access points are free?

And some idiot in Nokia decided that the radio can't work in offline mode - unbelieveable, especially considering how quickly the battery runs out.

well, most phones' built in radios don't work in offline mode... - it's a bit like the phone not working in offline mode either, duh... It keeps the tiny little extra bit of weight and size away, by not having to install a complete, seperate radio element, and a second antenna with added interference option - instead using itzy bitzies of the phone's transmitter!... Similarly, the video cam doesn't work when the photo camera-thingy breaks...
Why not see it the other way around: oh gosh, look, when I put the headphones in, I can hear the radio while the phone is on! Isn't that a neat BONUS! Should anyone involved in designing that great mobile smartphonecomputerthingy have prioritised that little add-on radio? "oh, bugger, lets limit call quality, camera, gps function, and throw out wifi, so people can listen to today fm a bit more?" hehehe... It took palm quite a while to stick the antenna inside the phone's casing rather than have that nobbly bit stick out,...those phones are really really intricate, that's why there still isn't a lego one!

What are you on about? I've had several phones where the radio does not depend on a network connection, particularly the SE W800i with its RDS capability. I don't understand the comparison to the photo "camera-thingy" breaking as the radio-thingy is not broken. The phone has all the radio hardware in place, what I'm talking about is that it requires a network connection to operate because it Nokia decided to come up with this "Visual Radio" concept. That wouldn't be so bad if the benefits were in place but it looks like no radio stations are interested in it.

So Nokia have blocked simple basic radio listening for a fancy Visual Radio concept that is pretty much useless.

Whats the general life on the battery? Anybody getting more than a day out of it with normalish usage?

I just got one of these with vodafone too. First thing i did was check the firmware vodafone have - V11.0.026. And they havent updated it yet, even tho non branded phones have version 21 released.

Version 21 adds extra features, such as flash lite - allowing you to view youtube vids within the phones browser - and more accelerometer support, ie when you turn the phone sideways, the screen content rotates.

Now you can go and get the phone flashed and update, but this voids the warranty.

so i went looking and found a few and found this which is a list of programs that use the onboard accelereter.
Rotate me - rotates the screen when you turn the phone
flipsilent - flipping the phone upside down mutes a call

Mobitubia is an app for viewing you tube vids. Might want to use wifi or get a decent data plan first.

Ill post more when/if I find them

Disregard everything i have said, the new firmaware is available on vodafone, and there auto screen rotation etc so you dont need rotateme as i said earlier.

I get two days usually. Is your wifi sniffing on a high setting?

How do you update the Vodafone Firmware? Also, does anyone have a good source for themes etc that don't say "Certificate Error" when you try to install them?

    Ta.

You need to get the Nokia software updater

    http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate

Follow the instructions here. Make sure to back up everything using the PC suite (contacts etc...)

    As for the themes try
    http://gallery.mobile9.com/c/nokia-n95-8gb-themes_1584/1/?st=2
Ive gotten a few here and they've worked ok

Im running v21.0.016 and dont have that option in my display menu. Do I need to download teh accelerometer stuff first?

Also, Was looking at a replacement screen on ebay as I have a N95 with a cracked screen, are these tricky to replace yourself or is it a simple connector?
