Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Read GIMP to break up the monotony of that bloody awful last book. Really enjoyed it. Its about a quad rugby player Mark Zupan and his story of how he became a quadriplegic and came to dealing with his new life confined in the chair. Zupans humour is very dark and throughout the book keeps taking stabs at himself which kept it light enough reading to fly through.

    So due to work, general laziness and a few other factors I havent picked up a book since my last post. I cant even remember where I was in Deadhouse gates. Currently re-cataloging and converting my ebook library (Calibre is a pretty decent program). Going to expand it over the next few days hopefully.

    Ill crack back into the reading this afternoon when the upload is done. No idea where to start, ill put the Malazan series to one side (again) for now as ill have to start Deashouse from the beginning again.

    Pickep up a few more books during the week. Unusual to be buying actual paper books but the local book shop was doing a free "Mystery Books" with your purchase so couldnt resist. Turned out to be Unwind by Neal Shusterman, least its something i'll read anyway.

    Unsure whether i want to continue with the Pratchett for another while or move onto something different.

    Enjoyed Ron Jeremy's book, he has a very entertaining way of writing. Had seen his documentary recently enough and a lot of the material between the book and the docu was crossover though.

    Quite liked Hollywood Hulk Hogan, it was a history of Hulk's wrestling career, a lot of memories in there for me from watching him as a young lad. Nice change of pace.

    Not what i'd normally read to be honest. Memoirs of a bouncer working in a very rough area. I wasnt too taken with it either way, it wasnt something that really captured my interest but there were definately some parts that either entertained or caught me up in the moment.     Seemingly a self help book wrapped up in a story of a young athlete and his path to enlightenment and recovery after a motorbike accident. Didn't enjoy this at all, probably wouldnt have read it if i'd known it was a self book before I started mind you.

Currently about a third of the way through the first book of the axis trilogy now and enjoying it so far. Fairly simplistic in the plot lines up until now though.

    Axis trilogy won't be something i'll be revisiting anyway. Fairly straight forward fantasy, usual good versus evil stuff. Only think surprising about the book was one small reveal towards the end, which only wrapped up one lose plot end.

    Cracked straight into Hogfather after that.

    So a quick total there gives 24, and my phone says that its calendar week 19, so definately on target to make the goal of fifty with ease I think.

    A biography of a fighter competing in illegal underground fights, to be read with a very large pinch of salt. That said there was something about it that kept me turning the pages and I flew through it. Not particularly well written but something about it just kept me interested, most likely the description of the fights.

    I have a copy of "Once were warriors" looking at me out of my bag at the moment. I've been carrying it around with 2 months now and haven't even cracked it open. Might start into that next.

    Had to read once were warriors, just to get it out of the way. Differers a reasonable amount from the film. Found the narrative style difficult to read, it was comprised of very small sentences, lots of punctuation, no quotation marks when someone is speaking - fairly tough to follow all in all.

    Back to Pratchett for a while I guess.

    Arise ye zombie thread.

    This came into my head again the other day. I had forgotten all about it and decided to resurrect it. Made very poor progress on my reading last year, in part due to time restraints and in part by having my ebook reader die on me.

    So this year i'm armed with a new ebook reader and more time to read. So far I have gotten through the following -

    I know, I know, this is probably the third time I've read these in this log alone. But I'd forgotten everything and wanted to refresh my memory before reading "Dance". Cant say I was overly impressed with it though given the wait.


    The First Law Trilogy - Joe Abercrombie
    Book 1 - The Blade Itself
    Book 2 - Before They Are Hanged
    Book 3 - Last Argument of Kings

    Best Served Cold - Joe Abercrombie
    The Heroes - Joe Abercrombie

    Quite enjoyed these. A slightly different twist to the standard fantasy fare. Some great characters, very funny in places. Not without its flaws mind you but looking forward to the new one later this year.

    Ready Player One! - Ernest Cline

    Just finished this one. Read it after having my brother rave at me about it for the last few months. Quite enjoyable, a bit predictable and "young adult" in places but pretty solid and a real page turner for those of a nerdy disposition

    Really enjoyed the first Mistborn book. The magic system is fresh and very well thought out. I flew through the first half of the book but felt the pace dropped a bit in the third quarter and kind of farted about trying to fill pages. A lot of good characters and although they aren't as well fleshed out as some other authors would, I think that they are very likeable although a bit cliche at times.

    I have started the second one already. I think this could certainly be a series to recommend if it keeps the pace up.

    A little dissapointed by Book 2 in this series. I feel it let down the first book slightly. It started out strong before dissolving into a teenage girl love story style for the majority of the book (Think Trudi Canavan Black Magician series). A few minor new characters, some mild plot development. I really hope the third one makes up for it.
