Smashing shots Peadar. Have to say the border wrecks my head though. I went through a phase like that awhile ago and when I look at them now I wonder what got into my head. It suits some (just some) but it takes the sparkle away from so many. Just my view........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

I prefer non bordered pictures too.
The colours are lovely too, pics 1 and 3 esp appeal to me....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

I take your point about the border.
I always like to get an idea of what a picture is like when it's framed.
Thing about photography, we all go through phases. :)

At first I thought they looked overcooked but on closer inspection I can see that the PP is really nicely done, especially the second one. The frame doesn't really bother me at all.

    Thanks, 5uspect.
Back to sport for me today.

I have to say I agree with Valentia both about the pictures and the border, its a bit too much like a memorial card for my taste.

Another garden shot, after the rain in Cork City yesterday. I'm going back to Dublin today, to hopefully start getting my life back in order after the week from hell which saw a photoshoot cancelled, kitesurfing lessons postponed, sports injury reoccurring and a collision driving home from work during the week along with all the inconvenience having a minor road accident involves in terms of getting damage repaired. I'm fine, by the way, just immensely annoyed that courtesy of this, some plans are being cancelled, rearranged and all that.

I don't own macro lenses, so I suppose I probably shouldn't try to do these things. But you don't learn if you don't try.

Last time I was here I discovered that the fish responded to the light going on by swimming upwards because they knew that the food was on the way.

    2463218595_5bdf3a10c8.jpg

The picture was shot without flash (my bad) but I'm actually quite happy with it.

    ___________________

on the tangent of Peadar's frames, I have just the following comment: I like frames. I do, however, try to suit the frame to the photograph and ideally I think that the frames are a little too broad for the photographs and also, I would have chosen a white frame for them.

but that's just my taste...they are Peadar's photographs and at the end of the day...

Sorry to hear you had such a crap week Calina! Hope you get cheered up soon! :)
I don't have a true macro lens either but I have a Sigma 70-300mm Lens & I add a Canon extension tube EF25 (II) to it and it makes a big difference. I'm not a techie so not sure exactly what ratio it comes to... Anyone know?
Anyone else use extension tubes? This one cost about €100 online but it was cheaper than buying a macro seems as I already had the 70-300 "macro-facility" lens...... I might get a macro lense at some stage but this does fine at the moment!

    I'm fine, by the way

Thank heavens for that. Jazus, I hope that that will be your quota of bad luck out of the way for awhile.

I really like the first one, calina.
Glad to hear that you're ok.

thanks guys. that photo is from my "oh look, raindrops on petals, I must do that, damn, where's someone with a macro lens when you need one" series.

    al, nice, very nice.

I was out shooting in Garretstown and the Old Head of Kinsale today. Wasn't hugely successful but it was good to get out and the sun was shining. Place looked beautiful again. Just wish I'd been able to go out surfing...next time.

Fajitas, how come the cows don't fall into your lens? :D
    Great shot!
Everyone should have been busy snapping this weekend. Surely there's more to show?
I'm considering my options for tomorrow.

You might have done. I was running around barefoot if you saw a crazy photographer with no shoes on. I discovered yesterday that my vertigo is much, much worse than I ever thought it was.

Anyway, when I got back to Dublin today, I was playing with the tripod and the timer and learning to touch up my own face. Here is the result.

    Great pic!
Went to your flickr page and it said 100mm, is that the Canon macro lens?
I also seen you used spot metering....must try that for my Macro shooting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Yeah, Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro. A great macro lens. I used spot metering, otherwise the background would have been fine but the subject would have been a bit too dark.
