Can anyone recommend a place where I can get a tough "no fingertips" massage. Dublin city centre or West dublin preferably. The last few massages I have had have been useless - no strength used, even though I have piped up and asked for a bit of elbow grease. Ta.

A friend went for a Thai massage on Kevin St earlier in the week and found it excellent. She had a sore neck so went for a back and shoulder chair massage, there were so many knots that the woman giving the massage gave up on using her thumbs and moved onto her elbows. She couldn't recommend it highly enough...

    Think this was the place...

Not quite city centre, but Ciaran in Dundrum is excellent. He's about 10min walk from the Luas stop though & near the M50. He used to be a full-time athlete himself & does physio for Irish athletics team.

Very reasonable prices & will make sure you're sorted before you leave.

Melt in Templebar do fantastic deep tissue massages - not a fan of the wussy, relaxing types myself.

    This guy is brilliant!
    Peak_performance@dublin.ie 086 3236303

He’s worked with top-level athletes here and rugby players and runners in the UK.

An Eircom League referee I know referred me to him.

He’s based in Greenhills / Walkinstown, just off the M50, but I know he does house calls only for an extra €20, more or less, depending on where you live. I think he does Bray also.

If you want a deep tissue massage, he’s probably the best I’ve ever had.

    Very reasonable prices also.

The Thai centre in Kevin Street. Withoubt doubt. High pain tolerance needed.

Ask for the Royal Thai massage and hold on tight! ;)

I was in the Thai place twice - never again.

The first time was when they were only open a month, and they were very disorganised. The therapist opened the door to reception as I was undressing, even though I called out that I wasn't ready.

The second time was about a year later, and the place looked better with the little qubacles, but the massage was dreadfull. It was a very light touch, with way too much oil. When I told the therapist that I wanted more presure, I found she didn't understand english.
She also had the habit of dragging down the legs very firmly, which was quite painfull and a bit of a worry as I could feel the blood being forced the wrong way. I had to call the manager to save me!
The manager told me there were negative reports from other customers about this girl, and told me to book someone else next time I came...
I also refused to pay, which didn't phase the manager.

I know a few people go to SV Fitness in the IFSC

I don't know if they are good but they are getting repeat business anyway. It's good they have a pricelist here

It has since changed management. I wouldn't bother with any oil massages, it's the Thai massage you would want to be getting. No oil, just elbows, feet and knees!

Same question as the OP, just looking for one in North Dublin/Co.Dublin. Guy I go to has emigrated without a thought for my back. You'd think he'd be more considerate.

I've been thinking about getting one of these...

Never had a proper massage in my life, would there really be that many "knots"?

If you’re looking for a good decent massage. I recommend
    Shane Mckay of www.bodymechanix.ie
He is based in Morton Stadium sentry.
The last time I went to him he used all sorts of techniques
Including his ELBOWS. I HAD SERIOUS NOTS IN MY BACK!
And he totally sorted me out and even gave me some exercises to do to prevent them coming back. He is trained in Physical Therapy and sports massage and holistic massage so can give you whatever treatment you need.

    Hi

Thanks for all your replies. I went to both Melt and dublinthaicentre on separate occasions over the past few weeks. I have to say both were very good but Melt had a better atmos and were much more professional and out of the two. I would definitley recommend MELT in temple bar to anyone.

What did you think of the Thai centre?

I thought it was very good - the setup is a bit crampped and you can hear massages in the other cubilcles which is a bit off putting. The massage itself was excellent and good value. 60 mins was given in total unlike some places where the clock starts when you enter the room.

It's a pisser when a oil massage really turns out to be about 45 minutes, with the changing.
What would happen if you gave them €45 instead of €60 for the hour...? :)
