Aw, I'm guessing from the plot summary and the name of next weeks episode that
we won't be seeing any Locke/Ben/Jacob stuff this week:(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,493 ✭✭✭eddiehead

Hmm, not a bad ep, but nowhere near last week, no shock revelations or anything like that. I really thought we would see jack speak with his dad off island, i assumed it was building up to that. Im curious to see what happened claire, or maybe they will just leave it at that for her and let the losties figure it out in time.

Ill give it a 7, i think next week will be very interesting though....the name certainly suggests so:D

Fillery episode in terms of island goings on, though it was redeemed to a certain extent by good character drama - Juleit/Kate, Sun/Jin/Daniel/Charlotte, Sawyer/Miles etc.

I guess it answers the question as to how Aaron gets off the island without Claire. I couldn't see any way around it without killing her off but this might be it. I imagine we won't see her for another few episode before showing up for a shock reveal. So do we think that it was actually Christian she saw, a vision, the smoke monster or what?

Also, Juliet as the potential leader of those who remain behind? Or Sawyer? Or even Locke or Ben if they ever rejoin?

    Favourite part of the episode;
    Sawyer: You're buddies do this?
Miles: "They're not my buddies, man!" *
Sawyer: "I'm not your man, guy!"
Claire: "I'm not your guy, freind!"
Miles: "I'm not your friend, buddy!"

*may have been my imagination from here on

I thought this episode was much better than last week, and I hate Jack, so it came as quite a shock to me. I wouldn't call it a filler episode as it tied up a few storylines, ie. Jack and Juliet - Juliet may actually get a decent storyline now.
I also don't agree that we won't be seeing Claire in the next few episodes - I think she'll have a big role in next week in the finale, afterall, Jack must somehow find out that she's his sister before getting off the island - hence the "You're not even related to him" line he threw at Kate.

Not as good as last week's but interesting nonetheless. The episode brought back some of the seemingly supernatural elements, like Miles being able to sense Rousseau and Carl, Jack seeing Christian, Charlie delivering the message to Jack etc. Also interesting that they addressed one of the most popular theories, that they're all dead.

    Looking forward to next week.

Really solid episode, nothing fillerish about it. I can understand it seeming like a let down after last week's action packed affair but this was a strong character driven episode imo, which is what Lost is all about. I was initially disappointed that we didn't get to see Christian talk to Jack but I guess they're saving that for the finale.

Good episode :) We saw how Jack descended into the figure he was at the first flashforward ,he must also have found out that Claire is his sister "You're not even related to him" , Sawyer chose not to leave the island , Great performances as usual from Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly.

Thought this one was a bit of a girly episode with the proposal, crying and love triangle stuff. It did answer some things like how Claire gets seperated from Aaron. I still think it was a bit meh.

Ha ha, maybe you should just watch Arnie films if you dont want any "girle" stuff.:p

Very good episode again, a bit of a contrast to the mayhem of last week but answered some questions and moved the whole thing forward nicely.

    Good episode.

Will get very interesting now that Miles can see other people's "demons" now. Was very good when it turned out he had seen Claire's father. Are they really brother and sister? I can't remember that ever being said.

However one thing I thought strange is that Miles only picked up on those 2 being killed, yet he didn't seem to sense all of Dharma being wiped out. Perhaps he can only pick up on the recently departed?

Good episode, I thought. I do enjoy John Terry! I hope he's in the cabin when Locke et al get there.

I hope Claire's dead, she pisses me off. I liked the Jack and Kate stuff too in the flash-forward. It's nice to know what happens.

I'm going to go ahead and guess that Sawyer stays to find out what happened to Claire.

I'm also going to go ahead and guess that the person that Kate was seeing was Sawyers daughter, which is more of a stretch, but I think it makes sense, as I can't imagine that he has anything left off the island.

Big fat "meh" from me. Very slow and basically filler. Only interesting parts were Christian Shepard appearing to Jack and seemingly taking Claire. Don't like Jack anyway so that was probably why I didn't think much of this. Also episodes tend to be only average when Locke and Ben aren't in them. Also it has been a bit too long since we saw Sayid,Desmond and Michael on the boat.

    5/10

    :pac: LOL, nice one.

Good enough ep - I gave it a 7. Would have been good to see more of Christian though.

So it seems Danielle is really dead - pity as a flashback from her would have been interesting. Patchy came back from the dead but it's probably too much of a stretch to have Danielle claw her way out of her grave like a mad, hairy, French zombie.

Jeremy Davies is overdoing the nerd mannerisms when playing Faraday and it's getting annoying. I LOL'd when Jin threatened to break his fingers.

Sawyer was the best thing about this episode, with his "restraining order" on Miles. Christian must have kidnapped Claire because she wouldn't have left Aaron. She probably won't be found in time to leave the island and this is why Kate ends up back in the US with Aaron.

I'm in the meh camp this week. I think after last week it was almost inevitable that there would be a slowdown in pace. Just not such a slowdown. Jack's illness appeared totally pointless as he was hardly going to die given what we know. And the flashback was no better. It might have been if there had been a revelatory conversation with his Dad, but no, a note from Charlie was the most we got. And that just backs up the psychic's warning to Claire (and subsequent meddling) that she alone must raise Aaron. And Rose's appearance was pretty nondescript, apart from the umpteenth reminder that the island cures people. And I really shouldn't start sentences with And.

I did like Miles discovering the bodies, and Claire's disappearance with Christian, but overall 5/10 from me.

I disagree, look back at the first 5 min. how many times do they show jack shirtless in bed, towel around his waist, even when he reads the paper, dont look at the obvious, its lost after all......... HE HAS NO SCAR from the operation !

Why did they go to so much trouble, nearly filling an episode with the operation and his flashforward when there is no sign of it in the future ?

This could be a breakthrough episode imo. What it tells us ? not sure yet....:D

Wasn't as good as last week's episode but I liked it nonetheless. I was expecting it to be a 'filler' episode but it had some interesting and dramatic moments. I liked the scenes involving Jack and Kate. I wonder what Kate was doing for Sawyer? Anyway 8/10 from me.

PS Anyone notice how Jack hadn't got scars from the surgery in the flash forward? Was that a blooper or are we to believe the island healed the scars or something?

I didn't notice any scar but it stands to reason that it would be faint due to the island's healing properties. If there had been a scar on Kate's legs, I would have noticed it straight away though.

I thought it was pretty decent. Not as good as last week and not as 24 like but I wouldn't call it filler. I mean we found out Jack and Kate got together and we seen the start of Jacks descent into how he ultimately was in season 3 finale.
It also makes a bit more sense of the scene in that episode where he says to doctor to go fetch his father

Also the timeline is interesting. The only day that article make sense is August 31st 2007 which is seemingly after the season 3 flashforward in finale. So something is wrong with it. I presumed it was going to be somewhere in 2005?

1 final thing. I am probably reading too much into it but is there relevance that the smoke alarm went off and then Jack sees Christian, it detected "smokey"?

    I'd give it a 7

I don't think Claire is dead yet anyway. Remember before Charlie died Desmond told him that he saw Claire and Aaron getting onto a helicopter, but it would not happen unless Charlie died.

Sully (being dangled over a cliff, held by his ankle): "Yeah that's right Matrix, you did".
    Arnie: "I lied"
    Sully: "Waahhhhhh"....(*splat*).

Commando, great un-pc flick. Bring back the 80's, dammit!

Interesting idea. There is a link between Smokey and the visions of family members the Losties are seeing. But we don't know that Smokey is comprised of actual smoke - he seems to have a more tangible physical presence, or maybe he emits smoke to hide what he really is. I think there's more to the appearances of Christian than just Smokey. Either he's alive on the island or his consciousness is there.

I can't agree with you gustavo, I think their acting is what really let this episode down, neither of them could act their way out of a paper bag - if you watch it again, look at the scene where they're supposedly in love and notice how much of a feckin woodener Matt Fox is, and it's obvious (to me at least) that Ev Lilly can't bear to touch or be touched by Jack in reality. The more I see her, the more she reminds me of Wallace (as in Wallace & Grommit), those big goofy teeth and the huge mouth, a prettier Wallace mind you ...

Anyhoo, not too bad an episode otherwise. Sawyer's one liners get better and better. Kinda surprised Juliet sprang that one on Kate about The Kiss in the knowledge that Jack wasn't asleep.

I like the Faraday, Miles and the redhead more and more ...

    Solid Seven.

Solid 6. OK acting but far too much fillerism and teasing. Time to up the pace and update us on the situation on the boat. Bye Claire, you're really hot but you're also quite lacking in personality/importance. Christian, you being a doctor have clearly mastered the art of immortality thanks to the island's resurrecting properties, how's about you start explaining things to us mere mortals?

    ALSO................
That story Jack was reading..."Who are we really" that kind of stuff. WAKING UP as different people. I think body-swapping has already been alluded to before...

He's Claire's father. They're half-brother and sister (different moms). Can't remember what episode that this was revealed in...something about Christian's business trips, and then you see him meeting his estranged daughter and lo and behold its Claire.

Interesting that Claire mentioned seeing things right before she was taken. Miles made further enquiries only to be shut-up by Sawyer. I guess she saw Christian.

I wonder...have they ever left the island at all? I know that's stretching it but at this point, anythings possible right?

really liked this episode for some reason... maybe it was all the slight nuanced revelations or maybe it was Kate in a mans shirt and panties... who knows?

also, Jack does have an appendix scar. I've got the episode in 1080p HD and it can clearly be seen in the scene where he goes into the kitchen to make coffee. Thing is it looks like a real scar. Did Matthew Fox have an appendectomy in real life?

Also they clearly shaved Jacks chest to highlight the scar, I mean it looked like he'd just got up, waxed his chest, then headed down to put on the coffee before heading up to Kate.

Also if you watch that first flashforward scene again, the comment Kate makes about buying Jack a razor was purely so that he could put it in his hand so the camera would pan down to his mid section and show off the scar again.

LOL, he's one of my favourite characters, just shows how people opinions can be different.

'Filler' is normally meant negatively, but this episode filled in a lot of gaps in the future storyline - we begin to see how Jack ended up on a bridge in 'Through the Looking Glass', we get an inkling of how Aaron ended up being looked after by Kate, how Sun but not Jin got off the island etc. The future stuff was quite interesting and well written.

The problem was we got very little 'forward momentum' on the island.
Rose's 'the island normally heals' comment was hilarious to me. Yes dear, you're quite right so long as you ignore the 30+ people you've seen die in the last 100days.
Jacks appendix story seemed pointless, and a total lack of tension because we know he survives.
Claire - I don't think anyone cares enough about her character for her to be able to sustain a cliffhanger moment.

    Positives.
Sawyer and Miles some good funny moments... Miles seems quite complicated all of a sudden - I'm guessing the way he looked at Claire was more than just lust. I was never convinced he was after Bens money either and he seemed disinterested in Jacobs cabin last week. I've no idea what his motivation is.

Also interesting for me was Keamy and his Dogs of War - the smoke monster spared at least some of them which would indicate that Ben can summon it but not control it.

Nice to see Lapitus back, I'd almost forgotten about him.

Rousseau confirmed dead - most of us were very wrong in the recent poll.

    7/10 from me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,716 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Right so, I guess I'm another person who didn't catch Jack's scar in the flashforward scenes. Can't help but feel there's still a chance this particular flashforward isn't all a dream Jack has while put under for his appendectomy. The writers certainly threw enough ambiguity in there for that to be a possibility (to be honest almost anything is a possibility in Lost).

The flashforward just seemed way too idealistic to be real; Jack married to Kate, playing happy families. Yeah, I know it all goes sour but even the way it was shot seemed hyper-real and dreamlike. Heck, even as they're discussing putting him under one character says, "Wouldn't you rather be dreaming of better places" or something to that effect.

Have to say I found this episode mildly eerie; the scene with Jack working late in the hospital and Claire dissapearing being the main culprits.

This was a pretty bad episode for me, probably the worst since the Jack & Bai Lin one, which was 0/10 territory. abelard's buddy/guy/friend is about it's only saving grace.

The fact that most of the mercs seem to have survived Smokey's attack is a bit disappointing. Still nothing from the boat, that's far too many episodes to leave this hanging now. Nothing on the cabin either, which I didn't really expect, but it would have been nice.

Although the smoke alarm wasn't going off was it?? Was it just indicating the battery was low?

The effort made to keep us in suspense as to who Jack was living with failed, we had already seen the house from the episode with Kate's trial!! They even seemed to mask Kates voice when she was in the shower.

That story Jack was reading..."Who are we really" that kind of stuff. WAKING UP as different people. I think body-swapping has already been alluded to before...
Jack was reading Alice in Wonderland.
Alice took up the fan and gloves, and, as the hall was very hot, she kept fanning herself all the time she went on talking: 'Dear, dear! How queer everything is to-day! And yesterday things went on just as usual. I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think: was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is, Who in the world am I? Ah, that's the great puzzle!'
A lot of the themes & motifs in the Alice in Wonderland books tie in with Lost. The show has referenced the books a lot of times:

I had the subtitles on while watching Lost and when the fella found Rousseau's and Karl's body, it said it was Alex's voice that told him they were there.

Rose's 'the island normally heals' comment was hilarious to me. Yes dear, you're quite right so long as you ignore the 30+ people you've seen die in the last 100days.

    Am I missing something here?
The peope who died were all shot, stab, blown up, massise trauma etc, none of them got sick and died.
The sland sured Roses cancer, and Johns legs etc, the people on the island are rarely sick, if ever.
Jack getting sick is likely important,
The only person I can think of that got sick is Ben.
Has Jack pissed off the island like Ben did, maybe by allowing the boaties on to the island
