Iron Man

So, just back from the advanced screening.

To be honest, it was a little dissapointing.
There wasn't nearly enough scenes with Iron Man laying the smack down, like the scene where he
    flew back to Afghanistan
    to dish out some justice.

The personal side of things were handled very well I thought and RDJ was fantastic, it was almost like the character was written just for him.

I didn't like how Stan went from having a scrap suit to being a superior Iron Monger, that all took place way too fast. Paltrow was looking remarkably smoking in it.

All the best bits were shown in the ad but the movie was still very good. Pat on the back to Favreau.

Oh and one more thing, the title song wasn't played nearly enough.

Yeah i was at the advanced screening there. I really enjoyed it. Loved Downey Jnr in the role that he was born to play.

I agree with Palthrow comment, dunno how they did it :p

Think was defo a great film IMO, and would recommend it

Thought it was going to be a bit rubbish from the cheesy trailer, but I absolutely loved it. Great popcorn flick, completely ridiculous but just entertaining as hell. Its funny, action packed and generally tounge in cheek ("romance" subplot especially). Great one liners and sight gags (
Iron Man crashing through his house was hilarious
). Wasn't expecting much, but I got my moneys worth. Or at least would have if I had paid any money (free advance screenings ftw!) :p

Thought it was fantastic. One of the better comic adaptations. I agree that there wasn't enough action in it, but what there was, was excellent. RDJ was as brilliant as I thought he'd be. He really made the film stand out. And there was a great mix of action, comedy and even though they had the love interest, they managed to tone it down (who needs romance in a comic? :D ).

FYI, I was watching an interview with Favreau on Ireland AM this morning (with a horrifi interviewer who kept interrupting him!), and he was saying that they're already planning a second film and, being a comic fan, he knows that the third film always lets the others down. So he wants to do a big epic cross-over film. He mentioned wanting Captain America and Thor in it and that they should have their first films out by then.

I really enjoyed it but i wanted to see more IronMan . Just as i thought we were about to see him, his battery was dead and he was taking the suit off !!

I was disappointed with the film, it was only average in my book. Paltrow was a plank and a dismal plank at that. Jeff Bridges character was non sensical and the
transition to bad ironman or whatever he was called
    was lame.

Not enough Ironman on screen action time. The bad guys were lame. They just werent "bad" enough. I would have liked to have seen more intensity to the early cave scenes so you could build a real hatred for his captors.

Downey was great though, he really pulled off a convincing Stark just like the comic book.

The film suffered, as with most year one hero flicks, with pacing. The early on scenes dragged in parts and then towards the end you were watching a different genre of film.

Still im sure it will be enjoyable for fanboys and some others. I expected more considering who was behind the camera and given Marvel had total control over the film.

You mean massacring villagers isn't "bad" enough for you? :D
I know what you mean though. I think in an interview, they said they wanted the first film to be more realistic with realistic bad guys so that they can ease viewers into the universe.

I guess it's a tough balancing act, trying to get all the ingredients into the one film while still having it all make sense, story wise. As you say, almost all "year one" films suffer from this, but I think this handled it all fairly well. Better than most, I'd say.

Well, he was also behind Daredevil, so this is a definite step up. :)

Jon Favreau didn't direct 'Daredevil'. Too lazy to look it up with it was some guy with a 3 barrel name - Clark Johnson or something like that.

    Favreau directed 'Zathura' & 'Elf'

Ah, I remember now, did he act in Daredevil or something? I've kind of blocked out most things to do with that film.

Yeah, he did act in Daredevil. Played "The Plank Affleck's" fat little comical friend.

    Favreau is great though.

Really enjoyed it. Cast was spot on, especially RDJ who was absolutely brilliant. Agreed there could've been some more action in it, especially towards the end, where it all seemed to get wrapped up too quickly imo. But still, it's easily the best comic book adaption I've seen since Batman Begins.

Yep a trilogy is planned, so a sequel is confirmed.

I was deathly afraid that the film blew it's load in the trailers, so while I was greatly anticipating the film, there was a sense of impending dissapointment prying in my mind, but Iron Man really delivers. Loved it. :D

I really enjoyed it, though the absence of the after credits scene was annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

I'm generally not huge on Marvel adaptions, so I wasn't getting ahead of myself with this, as cool as the trailer was. I did enjoy it, but wasn't over-awed. Can't help but feel I wouldn't have liked it if it wasn't for Robert Downey Jr, he was fantastic as usual.

Might need a second viewing, my opinion is probably obscured by a cinema cock-up that meant an unscheduled 20 minute intermission

I loved it - I thought it had wit, intelligence & didn't talk down to the audience. It nicely straddled the fine line between the goofiness of "Fantastic Four" and the grim atmosphere of "Batman Begins". The Afghan stuff was quite hard hitting considering this was a "family" oriented movie, but it worked well. As everyone else has said, Downey Jr. was perfect for the role & really shows what star quality he has.

Also LOVED the Stan Lee cameo :D

Did many people stay until the end to see the extra scene?
Samuel L Jackson as Nic Fury :D

    Where was this?

Douglas. It was sold out in Mahon Point, so we had to race down to Douglas, missing the first couple of minutes and getting crappy seats on top of that. So yeah, maybe I should really see it a second time!

Just back from it!! Sweet baby jesus!!! WHAT A FILM!! Havent been that blown away by a film in a long long time. Best superhero film since Batman Begins, if not better (my judgement may be clouded having just seen it :D)

    Unreal.

I have to admit that I don't like the cross over idea.

Loved it, the 2nd half suffered from the "trailer for a sequel" syndrome most origin story comic movies have but the build up to becoming Iron Man was fantastic, the scenes where hes building the suit are hilarious didnt expect it to be so funny, will go again during the week

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

That was damned entertaining. Who knew an alcoholic misogynistic arsehole would make a brillian Tony Stark?

Bit slow in places, but meh, it's like any hero film trying to set the scene for sequels.

I particularly loved the final line. Great ending in my book.

Anyway, decent dialogue, really funny moments I especially liked
Stark trying to talk to his friend on the phone while dogfighting the fighter jets
), and a lot of stuff blows up in a most impressive fashion.

    Go see it.

Every review I've read has been favorable . I'm glad to see the film industry didn't give up on doing a movie about a heavy hitter like Iron Man , I think most people were disappointed with The Hulk ( although I have high hopes for The Incredible Hulk ), and I didn't think The Fantastic Four was really that good of a movie , it was way too campy for my taste . I read somewhere that the weaker powered heroes fared better at the box office due to the audiences ability to relate better to the main character ... , so I am a little surprised this movie even got made , but it sounds like a summer blockbuster for sure .

Ah now, both FF and it's sequel were complete garbage.

Watchable garbage though. I waited almost two years to watch the first FF and while it was far from a great film, it killed 90 minutes. The second one had some potential but was let down by the fact that it was being used as a Silver Surfer introduction film.

I enjoyed the movie, I enjoyed all the actors, including Peltrov, unbelieveably(I hate her).

Downey was awesome as already mentioned 100 times.

But after the movie I was left with an unsatisfied feeling, I didn't get to see enough of Iron Man suit.

What I loved the most though, was Starks' lifestyle and success.
