In an effort to lose fat I am going to downsize my starch carb portions but I dont want or think its necessary to give them up altogether

Pasta is one of those starches that doesnt fill you up as long as potatoes or brown rice and it has alot more calories per gram than those other 2 so to make a meal more filling I want to add some veg but I dont know what veg other than onions and garlic I can add to the following meal this is what I usually do

Boil a cup of whole wheat pasta
Fry up a portion of very lean steak mince with basil onions and garlic
Mix with a little lowfat low sugar tomato pasta sauce

I suppose mushrooms and peppers is an option but these go off very soon after buying them, can you freeze them? , any other veg options for this meal?

    Carrots
    Peppers
    Mushrooms
    Onions
    Brocoli
    Cauliflower

You could just totally cut the pasta out. I do somethings - it is no big deal as long as you have enough meat and veg.

broccoli's always good, chop 'er up really small though, maybe a few carrots too.

    Edit: beaten to it!

Broccoli is the super veg to beat all other veg.

I like to use freshly cooked beetroot.

Weigh the pasta just to see how many calories you are really taking in. You might prefer to eat an alternative. e.g. a burger bun has around the same calories as a quarter pounder, so I prefer 2 burgers with iceberg lettuce as a wrap. One of my cups filled with pasta would be a massive amount of calories.

I use torn up iceberg lettuce mixed in with mince dishes to bulk them up.

Tesco have 2x500g turkey thigh mince packs for €6 ATM, though it does seem quite watered down, lots of steam and water coming out of it. I mix it up with indian spices.

I like peppers, onions & garlic with mine.

It's all about the spices and sauces for me with pasta meals, so the veg is less important. Broccolli, cauliflower, carrots, onions, mushrooms, etc. anything and everything!

    Don't forget Spinach!
    Spinach vs Broccoli?!

OP: in addition to everything that was already said here I would recommend trying spinach. I eat frozen spinach - which I have heard is better for you because it is snap frozen - thus enabling it to maintain a lot of nutrients often lost otherwise. It also tastes delicious, goes with most dishes and is relatively cheap.
