Canon assignment - yes I know the deadline is today but

Hi folks,

I've been through the Canon Assignment website and cannot find answers to the following questions:

1) minimum resolution
2) model release forms.

I want to enter this photograph but have no change of getting a model release for it because I've never met the guy, he turned up in Portugal. Photograph was taken on a public beach. Photograph was also slightly cropped.

I've looked through the rules and they appear to be fluid enough to allow the entry...I'm just wondering if I missed some small print somewhere about usage? I care because the Red Bull extreme sports comp had some very strong rules about resolutions and release documentation.

Anyone any ideas?

I didn't see anything to give minimum details aside from the image being jpg.

This seems to deal with model rights, etc. --

4.2 Warranties

4.2.1 User promises to Canon and its affiliates that:

1. He/she is the author of the Photograph and that he/she has full and entire proprietary rights in the Photograph, and he/she has the full and unlimited right to exploit those rights;
2. The Photograph and any element appearing in the Photograph and their use by Canon, its affiliates, sub-licensees within the scope of the license granted under these Terms and Conditions do not infringe or breach the rights of any third-party, including but not limited to, intellectual property rights, rights of privacy and confidentiality and image rights;
3. In the case where a person or person’s image appears in the Photographs, User has obtained an express permission from this person(s), for Canon and its affiliates to use his/her image(s) within the scope of the license granted under clause 4.1.1 of these Terms and Conditions.



I entered using an image from a rugby game I covered.

Okay. Item three rules that shot out. Will have to choose another one.

Hmm. In that case, I would need the written permission from 4 clearly visible players in my image. If I get through the voting round, I can send off a letter to the clubs for usage permission, but since I already had press photographic access, it shouldn't be too hard.

Then again, you say your image was taken from a public beach.

I would even hazard a guess that a lot of images submitted don't have the expressed permission required.

Anything on post processing limitations? COuldn't find that either.

Not a single one that I could find.

In fairness, it looks like very simple and open rules.

There are some really quality images submitted, and also some poor ones too. Some even don't seem to fit in to the category submitted - eg an airliner flying is now a sport???

Portrait section jumped from 950 to 1117 overnight... and mine still isn't up yet.

I reckon there was a hell of a lot of entries last night, probably caused errors all over the shop

Of course, if your entry is now rejected, you've run out of time to re-submit.

Mine was originally rejected because of the description I entered, so had to submit it again.

It took my image 48hrs to be accepted for some bizzare reason, then they sent me an email to confirm that the region was Ireland.

Thankfully, the sport category has fewest entries.

Yeah, I was thinking tactically when I entered into the sport catagory... My photo was approved ages ago but I can't seem to see it in the gallery! :-o

I love the tags: "Animal + Child + Extreme Sports". That's got to be the first time they have ever been used together. And it describes it so perfectly!

I've just found what category my precious photograph is sitting in. I submitted it to sport I am pretty sure. I am at a loss to understand how it got through moderation to....

It's not actually, mine shows up as being in macro, until I go looking for it... it's still in portrait

Symbol for mine is actually portrait but the photograph is in the macro gallery. Where it definitely is not is in the sports gallery.

I entered my photo in the landscape category and when I was going through it the other day I noticed there were some photos in there a multitude of times! In the portrait section there is one a little like braveheart and it was there five times! I thing the whole lot is random or something.

They have the gallery set up so that the photos keep on moving around.

Highly confusing.

Entered mine in the portrait section weeks ago, sometimes it's in the gallery, sometimes not, I think maybe they have a few IT issues, or maybe they've sussed I use a Nikon.

What is the reason for entering competitions in the first place? Is it to win prizes or to gain recognition amongst our peers? Where's Elven when I need her?

If it's the former, well then good luck to y'all, if it's the later, well, that's way more complicated.

I think I entered to see what would happen. I don't expect to go anywhere, but the prizes would be nice. If I'm not in, there's no hope.

That said, I rarely do enter competitions...
