Right, i havent ran(a good distance) in a long while, yesterday morning decided i was gonna get off my ass and do something about it.
Started with a few basic stretches and a bit of a warm up.Walked a bit, into a jog and from there ran for mile or so,then walked the rest of the way, about 3/4 mile home.
Just trying to get back into a bit of a fitness regime.

Woke up this morning and legs werent too bad but now are getting a bit stiff, kind of sore.
    Is this from:
1)Not having run a distance in a while, legs not used to it
    2)Not properly warming up/stretching
    3)Combo of both

What should i do now,go out and "walk it off",or wait a day or so to become unstiff or what should be done.

    Any advice please.

    Thanks in Advance

    BF

I'd say more point 1 - legs not used to it. Then again, did you do stretching Afterwards? You should stretch after - will help with stiffness next day.

I'd probably do stretches this evening and just wait until tomorrow evening and do the same 3/4mile loop then. No point killing yourself or causing an injury at the start!
Depends on your fitness level - if you really wanted to get out this evening (just looking outside here and its lovely blue sky), then I'm sure a 2mile walk would be nice anyway, stretch yourself and do the run tomorrow...

Hello, Good time of year to start back running and a fitness program. The stiffness will be with you for at least 3 to 4 days. The best thing to do is if you can get back out over the next few days and complete the same route. Ensure you stretch before and afterwards. Sometimes even if you just go for a walk your legs won't feel to bad. When your leg muscles get accustomed to the running the stiffness should go. Any pain stop as you can make things go from bad to worse.
    Enjoy and good luck.

    A.

I would suggest a gentle run or walk as the other have. I find arnica a great cure for doms so you could give that a try. Best of kuck with getting back into it.

DOMS: Delayed Onset Muscle..... Something :) Probably soreness.

It's when your muscles start killing the day or so after you exercise them for the first time in aaaages and it stays with you normally around 3-4 days. Anyway, don't mind the stifness, go for some light jogs. It'll wear off shortly.

If you're running then also purchase proper running shoes!

Stiffness really doesn't stay with you once you start working out regularly but either way warm up gently then do whatever you normally do.

Alternatively switch exercise. If you're stiff from running jump on the bike or rower.
