I found this over the weekend.
Bush is one in a long line of jogging, health-conscious Presidents - including his predecessors Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter - on top of which he has a daily regime of weight training. At 55, he can bench-press five repetitions of 185lb and run a six-and-three-quarter-minute-mile for three miles.

Not bad for a 55 year old. The article is from June 2002. Another link reckons he benchs 200 lbs or "10 lbs over his bodyweight".

Imagine his fitness log: March 20th 2003 - Pecs a little tender after the bench. Cheney was yabbering about Iraq with Condi so I ended up getting flattened trying to squeeze out the last rep.

    Another link

On a slightly more humourous note I also came across this too (this one is a pisstake)...
Strongman" Saddam Hussein, the ex-dictator of Iraq, is "having plenty trouble" bench-pressing 100 pounds in jail, according to his coalition captors. Hussein, whose last breaths of freedom came in the comfort of his spider-hole, is "vigorously" attacking the weight bench on every Tuesday and Thursday, sources said.

"He realizes the world thinks of his as a strongman," said an anonymous guard. "You should've seen the look on his face when he couldn't bench-press 120 pounds. Priceless."

Saddam's ever-present identifier may have to be changed if the Kurd and Kuwati-killer doesn't show "marked improvement" in his workouts, according to insiders.

Saddam's immediate goals are "exacting a brutal revenge on all civilized humanity" and "bench-pressing 115 pounds," the Pentagon said in a press release.

Good find BossArky - you must have "misunderestimated" the great George W!

I once heard this guy on the Matt Cooper show describing how George Bush's fitness routine has gotten in the way of a lot of important decisions. Apparently he was out on a marthon cycle when an important decision about relief for Hurricane Katrina was due to be made. After the cycle he was to tired to take action - hindering the relief efforts.

    It could well be propaganda.

I read elsewhere that his height of 5 foot 11 inches is rounded up to 6 foot on the White House website. Apparently this makes him more appealing as a leader.

Even if he dosen't bench or run as report, it is still a nice little incentive for the average man on the street to aim to beat the president.

There was another article floating around where Paris Hilton was apparently boasting to a camera that "I beat I can do more of these than you", whilst doing her situps. I'm sure many women got down and tried to better her.

Well it actually wouldn't surprise me if he was extremely dedicated to his workouts, ex-addicts often are :)
