I'll be away tomorrow and there is a programme on RTE2 at 10.50pm tomorrow evening called "The Ultimate Guide" where people are sent off with a selfhelp book and told to try it out. Tomorow they are doing diets. Could someone watch it and tell me that they think?

Personally I think the show's a bit meh but rte.ie should have it viewable on its website for 21 days after the broadcast: http://www.rte.ie/tv/theultimateguidetoeverything/prog2.html

So, did anyone see it? What happened?

I went to London and left the tape set up, but DH forget to switch it on. Not that it would have mattered, the children had taken out the tape.

Ah it was pure rubbish. Well - they achieved their goal of dropping a dress size, by eating more (as in more regularly but not actually more as in quantity!) and exercising less (don't think so...).

They went through the book, figured out what body type they are and then did their shopping according to ingredients for their body type. Having done all this, they then stuck to their new diet and incorporated in some exercise for the 6 days. One girl had breakfasts of 3-egg whites, which she made look awful!! Both did well and were entertaining.

Exercise was to be 'within the fat-burning zone' and no further impact from what I could gather, basically that 'if you work any harder you'll look huge by putting on muscle which is not what I want...'. That was the general attitude!

So.. in summary - yes they both dropped a dress size (or 2 in the case of 1 girl) but I'd imagine that was water. Simple as!!

Oh, I love that attitude. Funny, the only intense exercise that makes me look bigger is lifting chocolate into my mouth.

I know ya - but they're happy - and smaller :pac: Having said that - one of the girls wanted a quick fix, for her wedding. So - in that case - she got what she wanted. It's not sustainable, it's not going to last but it did work.

I flicked through that after the football, there was a girl WALKING on a treadmill and wittering on about not going any faster because she didn't want to get huge muscles!
    WTF???

Dont wana get TO big! Better eat this galaxy family size after this excercise just so some of the weight goes into my stomach and not ALL into my "muscles"

Watched it there on the link above. Quote:
"we need to keep it below a certain level where it's fat burning rather than muscle building cos if i do this at a higher speed i'm gonna build up big bulky muscles and just gonna look big... too big"
    ahahaha

It was a great example of how little the general public know about exercise and how to exercise really.

As far as I could see though, the plan worked. Read a few reviews of the book on amazon too and it sounds like if you're willing to stick to it for the six days you will see results.. Like someone said, it is probably mostly water but for a quick fix it looks better than other 'quick fix' diets..

Eileen, I'm not sure if you do be trying to be funny - but your posts always crack me up! :D:D

Aha, I finally got to see it. They showed a repeat at some unGodly hour last night.

Without looking at the full meal plan, the diet sounded an awful lot like PSMF to me. Wonder did anyone tell them you can't do that for long? 3 egg whites for breakfast, wow, there must be a whole 50 calories in there.... No wonder they weren't running or lifting weight, they'd collapse in a heap.
