    With regards diet...

I'm cutting out as much to near all the processed foods that I eat after getting a bit of advice n reading the threads here. Along with this i'm aiming to get fitter...

With regards food n drinks... I drink water the odd time but I love flavoured water, namely the Volvic strawberry water(sugar free)... Is this OK to drink?? What about juices, Orange, Pinapple, apple etc?? Concentrate drinks?? Diet drinks(coke, 7up etc)

Cheese, I love cheese(allot)... What cheese is best to eat?? I also hear lots of talk about cottage cheese, any particular type??

Pastas n Potatoe.. These good to eat?? What kind are best?? (please tell me pasta is good cause I can't live without it :p:p)

Meat... Apart from chicken what other meat is good and which way should it be cooked??

I get home from work on ave at 5.30... by the time I get around to eating its usually between 6.30-7... Is it best to eat then, wait a while and excercise later or excercise when I get home and eat after??

Calories wise the water and diet drinks are okay, some people have concernes over the acesulfame K and other additives in them though. Juices are fairly crap.

I'd pick low fat cheese to reduce the amounts of saturated fat from it. Cottage cheese is a better option. I'm not sure which type if any is better as the texture of it makes me want to vomit.

Starchy carbs are crap too in most cases. If you pick a wholemeal option it will be marginally better but not alot.

Chicken, turkey, lean cuts of beef and pork are good too. Grilling would generally be the best, certainly better than frying anyway, although I love a fried steak.

Juices are full of sugar so I would recommend that you avoid them.

Cottage cheese - Tesco do one that's pretty decent and cheap. Tastes horrible on its own so you need to research on what recipes you might like with it. I find it a great substitute for Mayo or sour cream dips.

All lean meats are fair game -and don't forget fish as an option too!

Lidl do a very nice cottage cheese. You can use it as the basis of a lot of desserts as well as eating it on its own.

Steak! Red meat is good for you, full of iron and creatine and amino acids and all sorts of good stuff. Oily fish is brilliant, and cooks in no time. Eggs are a bodybuilder's best friend for a reason.

They are now finding that saturated fat is not the baddie, transfat is. That's the stuff you find in processed food and margarines. Depending on what way you are planning your diet, you could eat very low fat cheese like cottage or ricotta, or moderately low like low fat cheddar, or normal like cheddar or parmesan, or high fat like manchego or cream cheese.

Pasta has a place in a good diet, but probably a lot less of it than you are used to. Most people eat several portions of pasta at once. Just because it all fits on the plate doesn't mean you should eat it. Pasta or potato (boiled, not chips) are a decent meal before a workout.

Most people can't exercise on a full stomach. If you plan to lift hard, then maybe have a small snack 60-90 minutes beforehand, and eat afterwards.

I used to consider it a challenge :p:p

I don't eat fish, I hate it.. always have. I used to take cod liver oil religiously as a child... What would be the best substitute for fish??

What would be best alternative base to a meal?? ie. A substitute for pasta, spuds??

I've started eating steamed baby potatoes instead of chips..

As for butter/margarine.. I'm using benecol as my doc said it'd help with lowering my cholestorol

If you don't eat fish, and you don't have an allergy, I'd suggest taking some fish oil capsules. Keep them in the fridge so they have less taste. Walnuts and flaxseed are other sources of Omega 3s. You might also try those Omega 3 eggs.

Best alternative to pasta etc is vegetables. Cauliflower is great, you can mash it and use it like rice. Eating a portion of green veg like broccoli instead of a portion of pasta will save you about 200 calories straight off. And that's if you eat a single portion of pasta.

There are difference schools of thought when it comes to cholesterol. It's not as simple as "Eat less fat/cholesterol, have less cholesterol in your blood". In fact, it's not as simple as "Cholesterol causes heart attacks." A diet high in saturated fat can reduce your cholesterol levels if you cut out all processed foods and refined carbs. However, if you and your doctor are happy with the Benecol, great.

It's possible to develop a taste or a least a tolerance for fish. I'm 30 and have hated fish since being made eat it as kid. But lately I have started eating a lot of sardines and skippers. A tin of john west skippers in tomato sauce has around 16 g of protein.
