I play alot of tennis so I know all about the aggro of shin splints. What I do is play with a tight enough full heigh angle support. It's a velcro job that runs from my ankly upalong my calf.

Good shoes are also very important.

If you already have them then they can be massaged away. Its "painful" but worth it to break down the bits of bone.

Ice packs should bring immediate relief.

Talk to your doctor OP. Shin splints relate to muscle pains in your shin due to a number of different reasons (most common is when you start out with running and the underused muscles get sore or alternatively if you run in the wrong shoes in the wrong way) not shooting pains up your ankle from a breakage.

Don't listen to the above telling you to break down the bits of bone  Go to your GP.

I don't mean to be harsh, but you've had a serious injury and have obviously been treated by medical professionals so why are you now taking diagnosis from "someone" and asking for treatment on an internet forum?

Get thee to a professional. You may have healed badly, or you may just be sufferring the effects of having your foot immobilised for so long. Either way, this isn't the place to be asking as you'll likely get all sorts of incorrect advice.

Shin Splints is muscle prob,my son suffers from it.You realy need to go to your GP.
He had to go to a specialist and have special insoles made for him, they are expensive but if that is your problem they work,There is a guy in Maynooth who fits them and has them made up.
Go and see your GP .

If I was in your position it would be the GP first then if its not being caused by your recent injury I would see a physio about the insoles.

Thanks everyone for replying I will go and see the Dr.I just thought it would be sore from the break and take its time to heal.

Shin splints are not a muscular problem but as the name suggests splints in your shin, tiny stress fractures are genuine shin splints-This is rare and what people are suggesting shin splints are is muscular tightness and has similar symptoms to Shin splints. most people who have shin splints actually just have tight muscles!!

Works for me! I should have said "calcium deposits" instead of "bone". All I know is that I can break down bone/calcium deposits that run up along my shin with some tough massage and application of ice packs to sooth the pain. After a few goes of this I'm back to normal.
