I've got into the habit of having porridge in the morning and delighted with it, keeps me feeling fuller for longer.

Just looking for a few tips on things to have with it?

At the moment i slice a banana into it, and maybe a bit of honey. Anymore ideas for a bit of variety?

I find a spoonful of linseeds gives it a nice bit of variety

I put trail mix or sunflower seeds in mine. Or a yoghurt sometimes.

Mmmm I love porridge, Bunalun Organic is amazing! I put flax seed, some vanilla pumpkin seeds and a few chopped strawberries or blueberries on top, yum yum :D

I usually have porridge in the mornings. However, in the past week I've dropped the porridge and started having just a tin of tuna (135g drained).

I was expecting the hunger pangs to come on earlier, but so far so good. I'm hoping this will provide a bit more protein and a bit less carbs. Not trying to loose weight, just mix things up a bit.

cinamon adds a nice bit of flavour to porridge (if you like it that is!! )

The really big advantage i've found is just that it helps keep me away from silly early morning snacks which would not be healthy

Any other meal of the day this would be good but for breakfast you really should have some carbs, your body goes into a sort of state of hibernation ovenight and carbs wakes up your metabolism. Even for fat burning (not you) carbs in the morning is good...

I like a nice spoon of jam in mine personally... Or a handful of mixed nuts with some mixed dried fruit too.

Do you make your porridge with milk by any chance? I don't take milk myself so I usually make my porridge with water and I would be hungry an hour later.

It could be the combination of milk and oats that makes porridge filling for people, adding stuff like bananas, nuts, flax would also make it more filling.

I just don't think oats by themselves are all that great for keeping you full.

Hi, I make it w/ half milk half water. I put some mixed seeds and raspberries on top and mix it all up - gorgeous. I never get tired of it. You can use frozen berries for it - get them in the freezer section of Tesco, Superquinn etc and they are way cheaper than fresh berries.

Sometimes I make it with rice milk - makes it kind of taste like rice pudding. Scrumdiddliumptious

I've gone off the porridge in the last couple of months, but all this talk of raspberries, bananas, yogurt, and mixed nuts in yizzer porridge has my mouth watering. Well i think you can all guess what i'll be having tomorrow morning for breakfast:pac:

For a change this week I threw in a chopped date - it was sooo good!! :pac::pac::pac: I wouldn't be a fan of dates in general but this was a massive squishy organic M&S one... it was almost like parts of it kinda melted into the porridge as well.

    Can't wait for brekkie!

Raisins ftw!!! They go all soft and yummy as long as you cook them in with the porridge.

Me wants porridge now..... Can't be normal....

What about John Berardi's suggestion to have an omlette in the morning with spinach and cheese, and some pineapple?

What about X's recommendation to have XZY in the morning??

There's so many approaches and effective ways of doing things that everything out there nutrition wise has something or someone to contradict it.

There's no point searching for the perfect solution to all cases, because it doesn't exist.

Well I was simply replying to Mickk's comment to see what his response would be. Not trying to stir things as I'm fully aware that there are a number of ways to approach nutrition.

Yeah they are much nicer than just putting them in cold.

I would imagine it'll be similar to what I said, we'll wait for Mickk and see tho sure!!

Okay, I got out the packet and have performed some calculations... The ones I use are 57kcal each (they're about the size of my thumb though!:o, (100g = 275kcal)) and are about 59% sugar (...which obviously makes them better than 57kcal worth of sugar, which is 100% sugar* ;))!

Tomorrow I'm adding them to the pot too...:pac:

    * I have nothing against sugar but I expect some people do!

I find it makes it a bit clumpy and ruins the nyomness of the porridge.
