can anyone tell me how long as in how many weeks, it would take to tone up all over, if your not very overweight, just around a stone and half over, and doing weights and other toning exercises, 3 times weekly?

im 39 year old female, 5 foot 3inches, 11 stone, not sure of body type, i dont put weight on quickly, its just that i havent been active for a long time, im a pear shape if thats any help? its lower stomach, thighs, bum, and now..the hips too, my legs, arms fairly toned, never really get flabby, i dont look very overweight but you can see i need toning mainly just the areas above, when im standing stomach looks fine, when i sit...it goes into the tyre roll...

Nearly everyones stomach has a tyre roll, make sure your posture is correct when you sit and it could correct it, cos youre not particularly overweight. I've a flat stomach and could make a tyre roll if I slumped to put it in perspective.

Keep breaking sweat in the gym, get your heartrate you into the 180 range for about 40min a day, eat healthy, avoid o many carbs and you could tone in I'd say about 7 weeks. After 5 weeks you'd look tone wearing clothes though...

i only go up to 160 on an exercise bike, i think i can probably do higher, but was worried that it would be too high cos im 39? whats the highest number i could go too safely?

****e, its late and I wasnt concentrating, yeah, jesus 169 is grand... if you were busting yourself to get to 169 then keep it in the 140 range, you should be in a range where youre sweating after 7 minutes, but can maintain for 45 minutes...

thank god for that!! was kind of dreadin it cos im already sweating and fairly breathless at the 40/50s, will stick at 60 tops then. thanks for your advice

Oh and if youre using the machine itself to measure your heartrate, theyre not very reliable. You can get a monitor and watch set from 20e in Aldi which works great.

EDIT... You should not be sweating in the 40/50s, the machine is definitely wrong... your resting heart rate shouldnt even be as low and 40/50!

oh sorry! i mean 140/150, like you said..its late! yes im using the bike monitor, will get one from aldi, i dont get breathless/sweating until im up the high 40s, and then sometimes it goes over 60, even though i dont seem to doing it any faster, so will get the aldi thing

I don't think there is a definitive answer to this as some people's bodies will respond quickly and others more slowly.

One thing is for sure, if you simultaneously :

    eat clean
    exercise hard (and varied )

you will see results relatively quickly.

    What is this tyre roll?

Well, it was 3 months ago I posted on this site with my terrible burger king diet and skinny arms, I was 5'10 , 9 and a half stone and in bad shape. Since then i've been lifting 3-4 times a week and eating healthy everyday, I'm not a little over 11 stone, my arms are much bigger and in general I feel much bigger and better in myself so if you keep the commitment up and have the right attitude you will feel the effects and never look back.
