tough question but i would probably have to go with payton manning (biesed i know) but there is plenty of quality players to choose from you cant take away from brady. i really liked sean taylor before he died guy was quality. i like bob sanders alot ad randy moss i could go all night here.

    Manning/Manning

Obviously one answer makes the other one biased. But his consistancy at such a near perfect level for so many years puts him on a Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan level, IMO.

Tom Brady is by far the best player in the NFL.

    But i like Randy moss.

Oh.. did i mention i was a Pats fan?

Manning sucks. Hes all Hype :p;)

manning is a better player because he gets his success on a team who dont have to cheat to get their success(spygate)

Wow, way to undermine your comment on Brady - making a statement like that just tells us you know very little.

    lol. No.

The Patriots have been the most consistant team in the NFL for some time now.

But Brady has not been the most consistant QB, I think you'll find that's Manning.

Manning finished the season with 4,040 passing yards, 31 touchdown passes, and a quarterback rating of 98.0

    Brady finished with 4,806 yards (3rd all-time) and 50 touchdowns beating mannings 2004 record) versus 8 interceptions, and a 117.2 passer rating (#2 all-time). His 398 completions was 5th all-time

Yea ^ Mannings a clear winner.

i suggest you open yourselves to a bit of light hearted banter, rather than a small click of you slamming others opinions.

    Good evening.

Yeah he is, because you've picked 1 year

Manning has a career passer rating of 94.5 (Brady 92.9) a season record of 121 (highest ever) (Brady 117.2, as you pointed out #2 of all time)- an average of 4,100 yards per season (Brady has broken 4000 twice). Most seasons with 4,00 yards, most perfect passer ratings ever and Most passing yards per game.

Most of these are records that take years to perfect - not 1 year. I'm not slating Brady, he's class, but Manning is better.

Brett Favre, but now that he's retired, I'd have to think for good while to come up with a replacement.

Look who Manning had to throw it too and who Brady had during most of his career. Last year was first year Brady had receivers of a calibre that Manning had for his career and he tore it up. I think both are class and think it's too hard to call but wouldn't use stats because they don't full story

As for who's best player in the NFL? Hmm, silence down the back when I go for Albert Haynesworth based on last season. Completely dominant, stopped the run superbly, team couldn't win without him. Plus that star jump move he pulled had Hollywood appeal. I think contract year had a lot to do with it and i won't be picking him again this time next year
And my favourite player? Roy Williams of the Detroit Lions followed by DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys
And the most underrated? Probably Jason Peters of the Buffalo Bills but love kyle vanden Bosch's engine. That tampa bay rookie safety from last year gonna be a star too
And the most overrated? Roy Williams of the Dallas Cowboys and Brian Urlacher of the Bears but then everyone knows I don't rate them anyway

Others I love watching: Adrian Peterson, Marion Barber and Maurice Drew Jones for wanting to inflict as much pain as possible, steve hutchinson and joe thomas, TO and Chad Johnson, LT and Antonio Gates, Jared Allen, Tommie Harris

was wonderin how far into this i would get before i felt the need to quote and rebuke.....this is bull****, all teams do it, your naive if you think otherwise......you cannot take away from the quality Tom Brady has, nor can you take any away from Peyton Manning...both excellent in their position....

sorry, now i see we have moved on from that bull****, thanks!! ha ha

im a big maroney fan, as am i a huge Brady fan....i respect Manning as one of the all time greats of the game, have a soft spot for wes welker after last seasons performances....

tbh there are so many guys out there that i really like i could go on for ever here so ill just cut it short now!

hey im not dening that bradys a good player, because hes very good, i just think mannings better and by the way this thread is for to leave your opinion on the best and your favourite player, not to start dening something thats been said

    1. peyton manning
    2. ely manning
    3. bernard manning

honorable mention: wes welker......underestimate him at your peril!!!!!!!!!

Im biting my tongue on this one before I get banned again.

You got to love the Biasm all around the place.

Screw it biting no more. Jdivision made the best point. Look at the reciever core Manning had and has since he started now compare that to Brady. TBH there is nothing between them well other than 2 more rings. Its one of these things you just cant argue.

Oh the cheating arguement again someone anyone please change the record. Look again everyone cheats Pats=idiots getting caught simple can we move on. Oh and before I forget that roaring sound you hear in every other stadium in the NFL are real fans and not a bloody tape:p

Anyway back on topic FAV player now or all time?

Ok, I see what you're getting at, but at the end of the day it's not as if the Pats had that bad an offense before Moss came along.
As for Peyton, you can't throw 4000 yards time and again and just say, "well, look at who he's had to throw to". Not if you want to be taken seriously IMO.
There have been teams with better receivers than Manning has ever had, who haven't come near to what he's doing. So when Brady throws 4000+ for the next few seasons, then I'll say he's up there. Not yet though. That's my point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,449 ✭✭✭Call Me Jimmy

Warren Sapp - He had to wear "Sapp" on his jersey for all those years and he still got the job done. I dunno if he's still alive now but I remember him coz me ma brought back an nfl jersey from 'merica and i thought it was pretty cool till I saw the name...

its amazing how this thread can turn into a full blown debate on who is better manning or brady when it was just supposed to be who is your fave player but i would like to think thats most of it is just banter and people are not actually taking offence by any of the comments what are we 10.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,641 ✭✭✭kev_s88

im gonna leave QB's out of my "best ever" decision cause it causes too much contreversy lol.

my opinion on best player is Marshall Faulk.the guy was a hero in the late 90's/early 00's.in my opinion he is the most all-rounded RB the league has ever seen.

Favourite player has gotta be "the Pocket Hercules" Maurice Jones-Drew.purely cause im a Jags fan and i cant stop thinking bout that block he put in on Shawn Merriman in the game against the Chargers.the guy is a god in the making in my eyes....

In fairness you give two great QB's like Brady and Manning receivers like Moss and Harrisson throwing 4000 yards come easy to both of them. Moss joining the Patriots is proof thats what Brady needed to be on the same level as Manning. so I stick to my guns there very little between them. Oh and the Patriots Offences were always more running than passing generally as Bill Bellichick could never find reliable recievers who were constantly great until Moss and Welker now. Ok the Pats had Brown, Deion Branch, David Givens even Stallworth in recent years but none of these guys could prove themselves as go to guys hence why Bill favoured his tight ends and spread the ball out between them. Anyway argument over Brady and Manning are too close to call the end.

I'll avoid the best player question for reasons that should be obvious.

My favourite player is Chad Pennington. He's been tough; he's been money; he competes his ass off; and he never complains. The way in which Jets fans talk about him and are so willing to kick him to the curb makes me a sad panda.

Yeah, I can't really argue with you, nor do I want to. But TBH I was more defending the "Manning Sucks" comment, than questioning Brady's ability. I'm not stupid enough to do that.
With a bit of luck we'll get Harrison back at his best and it will be a very interesting season for both teams.

BTW, In fairness, since i've been coming here there hasn't been a really good QB argumen... ahem, discussion on who the best QB is ;)

perfect season wasnt all down to brady though.you have to factor in the easier schedule they had due to their divisonal rivals being absolutely sh1t.they also had luck on their side in a lot of matches.no i know someone is gonna make the argument that every team has luck at some point and im not saying that they dont.im just pointing out that luck was abig factor along with brady and the easy schedule.

im not trying to take away from Brady because he is a very high calibre player but i personally think there was better players out there last season.players that came from obscurity and carried their teams.personally i would give the best player of last year to Adrian Peterson.the guy was on a one man mission to keep the vikings afloat.

Tom Brady for me is the most valuable player in the nfl. I gotta say that as much as I admire Randy Moss, I would put Wes Welker in the mix as one of the best in the nfl ahead of him. I am a Patriot sooo,

Out of all the rest Peyton Manning, LT, Terrell Owens and Houdsmanzadeh or whatever his name is from the bengals on Offence

And defenders Brian Urlacher, Shawn Merriman, Champ Bailey and Ray Lewis if he is still playing.

My best of all time not including those playing today and that I have seen playing would be Deion Saunders, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, Reggie White, Brett Favre, Walter Payton, Emmet Smith and John Elway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,555 ✭✭✭✭AckwelFoley

I don't think he's the most valuable player in the NFL. And this is partly my point - if the Colts lost Manning they would fall apart, whereas the Pats could survive a lot better without Brady.
I also believe had Manning played for the Pats instead of Brady he would have had just as much success. But we'll never know that. One thing I DO know is that Brady alone didn't make the Pats what they are now - there is an argument that (as much as is possible with 1 man) Manning did with the Colts.
I'm actually beside myself waiting for next season :D
