Putting a player on tilt?

I've never been a fan of actively putting someone on tilt as its harder to read them and if you are a winning player having someone making the same consistent mistakes and allowing you to profit from them over a lengthy period is my preferred method. Having someone blow up in an unpredictable way seems like killing rather than shearing a sheep to me.

However recently some people have told me that my mere presence at their table seems to tilt them somewhat. And the other night I actually noticed someone tilting and (holding my hands up here) I did egg them on a little and they ended up doing a buyin or two (partly as a result imho). Before making an ultimately disciplined departure from the table

Now I wasn't nasty or abusive but I did gently goad them and it did make the game in general a little more profitable as a good player started losing monies and that naturally improved the table from my perspective.

What are your views? Is it a good idea in the long run?

Your preferred tilt inducing method live??;)

It's a sunny Tuesday and I'd rather be outside but reading a few funny tilt stories is always fun.

I think you underestimate your powers of speechplay olly!

most tilt is self-inflicted imo though

Showing a player a bluff works a treat for me. Not among the "Regulars" so to speak, but for some reason blokes go on full monkey tilt if I show them a bluff, and spew their money in spectacular style.. Hasn't happened in a while though as I don't really bluff anymore (cough cough)

When you dog someone in a hand (like one outer them) tell them you outplayed them and they played it terrible :p oh the tilt is beautiful

Thinly veiled attempt to get everyone to say "AH, you're a nice guy really Olly".
I think you put me on tilt unintentionally (or was it unintentional??) a couple of months ago. Very subtle comment - "Ed, i should probably tell you to leave, but i'd quite like the rest of your chips" - Nice little needle to let me know how rubbish i'd been playing, but at the same time trying to come off like a good guy. I'm on to you!

Cripple someone AIPF with AQ against their AK and then start berating them about getting all their chips in with a drawing hand.

No I was being reasonably serious. 3 people in the last week told me I put them on tilt whilst playing. I consider it to be banter but I guess sometimes I was straying over the line. I'm never going to be outright abusive but I probably have strayed over the line (especially when I'm chasing).

:D Well I think you were already a little steamed up Ed (from a bad beat or two) and you had 150-200 in front of you and i had visions of you just dumping it into the game so I tried to do the right thing. :(

Next time Olly puts you on tilt, go home and watch' family guy', next time you play you'll appreciate his wisecracks.

Olly as a horse whisperer and Nicnic as a baby soldier. ......just the clip for indoors for a Sunny day indoors.

You're just upset because i dumped it to SpencerJames.

In all seriousness though, i don't think i've ever seen you do anything that i'd consider out of line at a table.

If this is in relation to me, ive a few things to say...........Firstly Olly, you don't tilt me(im untiltable) but you are always so damn happy. I employ this tactic too and its amazing how happyness tilts players who are currently unhappy.

If its me your talking bout the other night. I dont think i tilted i just ran bad, flopped a fush into a guy who flopped a higher flush and so on. I left cause it simply wasnt my night. i love playing with you and love the banter. never seen you cross the line. keep it up imo.

Also noticed you called me a good player!!!!! yay!!!!!! you've conceeded that i see.

I haven't played with you in a while Olly, but I can't ever remember being tilted by you. I don't tilt easily, but there have been occasions when my last 100 has gone in blind preflop I must say.

this might just be a BO problem more than anything else...lol

I will usually try to put some on tilt and I love to get someone's back up as it will make them play differenet against me and hopefully make loser calls etc. Its all part of the game.

I've also been thinking about the play acting players do to get a call etc. or using the clock to make them speed up a decision etc. I think this is all part of the game. I know a lot of people feel its wrong to call clock on someone, but this is business, not a charity.. maybe I'm to hard. But if you dont agree in calling a clock, do you agree with acting, calling the clock is just another form of acting.

P.S. Olly you never tilt me either. I can't smell.....

It wasn't you per se Rory but a few things that have happened recently. EVERYBODY tilts at some stage. To think anything else is a leak. Even Dom tilts and he is right in saying I've never tilted him nor would I waste my time trying as is very disciplined.
If its me your talking bout the other night. I dont think i tilted i just ran bad, flopped a fush into a guy who flopped a higher flush and so on. I left cause it simply wasnt my night. i love playing with you and love the banter. never seen you cross the line. keep it up imo.

In fairness the banter at the table when you are there does make for a bit of fun. But playing with the two "pros" and the two guys from the restaurant and Christy was even more fun after you left as I was thinking of the long run!!! :D
Also noticed you called me a good player!!!!! yay!!!!!! you've conceeded that i see.

I had to change some details to protect identities. The good player bit was one thing I changed!!

    I don't know whether it's because

    A) I haven't played with you enough

    or

    B) I ALWAYS have my ears phones in and I-pod on

but you've never tilted me at all. Quite the opposite actually. I really enjoy the banter that you bring to the table. There is nothing worse than sitting there with 8-9 other people and not one of them saying a word, except 'Raise' or 'Call', it's as boring as watching paint dry. With you at the table, you always know it's not going to be a quiet, boring night :)

There's only one player who can tilt me live, I don't know his name but he's a jackpot regular and possibly the most annoying man in the world. I'm pretty sure he could tilt anyone.

I don't usually try to tilt people specifically live as at full ring you probably wont reap the benefits anyway. Short handed is difdferent, but usually I try the opposite and act so nice they don't like repopping me. It gets surprising results...

playacting/speech playing in order to tilt an opponent is all part of the game. you are trying to psychologically affect an opponents play.

calling the clock is invoking a rule. The rule is there to speed up players who are taking too long. calling the clock just to tilt a player is breaking the rules.

    imo

Nah, I more so laugh at your hilarious antics...

Moneymaker sounds right (At least he definitely matches the description in the post above...Always wears that blue jacket thing too...)...And it's not so much tilt as a desire to actually go postal on the entire room. I did once deal him a hilarious beat, but the downside is you have to hear him go on about it for a few weeks at least, so is it really worth the brief moment of satisfaction?

Weeks? You are a lucky man.

I once had 22 v his KK on a 2-5-J board in the €50 fo in the Jackpot. He asked me what I had and, employing the old reverse psychology, I told him I had a set. He shoved the loot in anyway and I STILL hear about it every single time he gets Kings and I am in the room.

My hilarious antics? Ok there is no way you are talking about me...

BTW That is exactly who Moneymaker is. Far as I know he likes to read these forums. If you are out there Brian take a bow, most tilting player in Dublin it seems.
