    My favourites:

Imogen Heap - "Hide & Seek" - in the second season finale of The OC when Marissa shoots Trey

Moby - "My Weakness" - in the seventh season ep of The X Files ("Closure") when Mulder finds out the truth about his sister Samantha

The episode of Cold Case (season 3) with all Bruce Springsteen songs.

Le Mystere Des Voix Bulgares - "Mir Stank Le" at the end of Carnivale first season ep "Black Blizzard" when Brother Justin sees the bodies of the children who died in the fire

Bob Dylan "All Along The Watchtower" at the end of BSG season 3 finale when Starbuck knows the route to Earth

    What are your favourites?

    What are your favourites?

All episodes of cold case imo;) the nirvana one stands out too. CSI, for obvious reasons and I've watch a couple of episodes of Gavin and Stacey on BBC3 - great music used in it...

+1 for Reeling in the years.

Scrubs - The Coral, Dreamin of you, when JD and Elliot get it together for a second time.

The opening of the Late Late show (old skool version).

Episode 4 of Mad Men right at the end as Ella Fitzgerald sings Manhatttan.

Ashes to Ashes when Alex Drake enters the resturant/winebar in slow motion to the sound of I'm in Love with a German Film Star.

    Mike.

Sopranos always used music brilliantly. Yeah, even the final scene.

Patti Smith's "Horses" in the S2 finale of "Millennium". Showing someone's descent into madness, I'd probably rate it as the most memorable use of music in a show that I've ever seen/heard.

Most episodes of Supernatural feature classic rock tracks that go really well with Sam and Dean's ride (does the Impala have an 8track?) Someone should release a compilation album:D.

God no. It was terrible and has since been raped to death by every other TV show. The last few minutes of SFU weren't done very well.

That's my favourite ever ending to a TV show. The music was just perfect. Bring on the Kleenex.:(

Theres a Power Puff Girls epsode where the whole script is based on Beatles song lyrics, its genius

as for music goin oldschool, the begining of the cricket when it used to be on BBC2

Scrubs are very good at using music, so much so that a lot of the music sounds better fitted into the show than it sounds standing alone

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,960 ✭✭✭DarkJager

Whitehouse - Cuentan Que El played in The Shield Season 2 Episode 2 "Dead Soldiers".

I don't know what it is about that whole scene (with Vic roasting the armenian guy on a stove ring) but the music is just perfect for it. Still sends shivers down my spine when I see it...

    Soprano's FTW

Too many to pick one but my personal favourite is where Tony goes off on a rant at Janice over dinner and storms out down the street accompanied by The Kinks "I'm not like Everybody Else"

    Class

The Animals - "House of the Rising Sun" was perfect for the second season finale where Earl takes the rap from Joy and ends up losing his job, his freedom, and his list...

Thought this was brilliant use of 'Vienna' when I saw it a while back.

The slow-motion stepping through the falling glass..... epic! :D

Agree with some of the other posts here, 'Scrubs' and 'My Name Is Earl' have some of the best use of music of any TV shows around at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,799 ✭✭✭✭Akrasia

If you want to talk about integrated music in tv shows, then 70s cop shows have to reign supreme. The wacca wacca guitars are iconic and make viewing possible for those with an extremely weak heart as they always indicate what's going to happen next well in advance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,357 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I'll agree with 2 people here, the music in My Name is Earl is unreal... Every song is class, old school rock at its best...

+1 ... I haven't seen that episode in ages (must pull it out of my box set now) but that song "you have stolen my heart" fits that scene perfectly

I think Lost uses music very well but two moments stand out for me in particular from the first series. Locke's theme from when he finds he has regained the ability to walk, plus the rousing score used when Sawyer, Jin and Michael set sail on the raft. Really top notch emotional scenes.

I also loved the use of 'Don't Stop Believing' by Journey in The Sopranos ending.

ER used 'Somewhere by the Rainbow' by Israel something for Dr Mark Greene's final hours (he had a brain tumour) and it was a really outstanding use of music for a scene. Hard to have a dry eye watching that episode.

Speaking of Smallville, the scenes where Whitney dies (featuring Eva Cassidy's Time After Time) and then Jonathan in a later series (with Peter Gabriel's I Grieve) were great examples of how music can make a scene more emotional. Both can be seen here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS3Etfhoqio

I used to be a big fan of Smallville but I think it went on too long. I gave up on it the season after Jonathan died. It could be brilliant at times though and its use of music was very good indeed.

Overkill by Men at Work was class in Scrubs (in weemcd's post earlier), especially as it was actually Colin Hay performing it.

Liked the use of Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence in the finale of Stargate.

All Along the Watchtower in BSG was class too, as was the Spanish version used near the start of series 3 of Prison Break.

However, my favourite piece of music from a TV show: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJf7G08kMfA

Ha gotta love Peep Show. That reminds me of this classic bit from The Office...

    Perfect song choice. :D

Any West Wing fans here who remember when Lisa Gerrard's 'Sanvean' was played as the Bartletts attended Mass when Zoe was kidnapped? Absolute class. When Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' was played when C.J was walking down the street crying after her bodyguard/boyfriend was shot was pretty good too.

ER used 'Somewhere by the Rainbow' by Israel something for Dr Mark Greene's final hours (he had a brain tumour) and it was a really outstanding use of music for a scene. Hard to have a dry eye watching that episode

I remember that episode distinctively because of that song, eventhough it was years ago.

Actually the music in general in Nip/Tuck is brilliant - alot of the stones, gotan project,

Chasing Cars in Season 2 Greys Anatomy Finale is brilliant. Same as some good songs in this and below aswell

Wrapped in my memory in the Sopranos Season 5
