Are Converse all-stars sufficient for a novice lifter? (only just over bodyweight on squats/deadlifts)

    Absolutely.

I'd be doing about the same and I just lift in an old pair of pumas with no problems.

I'm just using a standard pair of cross-trainers at the moment, but from what I've been reading it's not really advised as the soles have too much compression.

Anyone know anywhere in town to get cheap converse?

I do my heavy deadlifts in my socks which is probably awful! But hey it reduces ROM :D Are shoes a must at all?

I sometimes deadlift in my socks too.

Nothing wrong with it afaik. In competitions a lot of people wear slippers like ballet pomps or those white swimming socks to deadlift in.

I do my my squatting and deadlifting in a pair of asics kayanos and find them fine, maybe not ideal but they work fine. Now nike air shoxs on the other hand are an utter no no

People have squatted over 450kg and deadlifted 400 in cons. They'll do just fine.

I've a pair that I wear to deadlift and bench in, had them since my first year of college. Weeks away from fininshed 4th year and they're only just starting to fall apart!!

I have squatted and deadlifted in my timbs many times.I found them to be great.Does the thick sole (about an inch) or the boot itself have any drawbacks for lifting?

I always do my weights in socks, I think shoes stabilise all the wrong places for me and it just feels more natural.

Dunno if there any pros or cons other than stubbing your toes every so often.
