    Hi all,

need a bit of input - just got a new kitten to add to our household, and we can't come up with a good name for her.

It has to be a little unusual and special (our last cat was called 'Bhubh', as in, the Irish for 'wuff'.) - so anything a long those lines would be great - no more than two syllables, and it has to be 'shoutable', as in calling her home, without offending passers-by. ;-)

    Any ideas?

here's a pic of the little on:

She is the picture of my 6 month kitten. I must post you a pic. I got her off someone else and she was already named Missy. Not very original but kinda suits her cause she's a real girl and always up to mischief.

What about something else Irish? Try this site.

Torties are special but the important question is - is she a nice one or a not nice one?

    How about Witch? :D

    keep them coming! ;-)

haven't got to know her yet as such - she's a bit hissy, but that might change. ;-)

so far, I've got Spoink, Squeegee, Squishy and Sushi on the short list - 'Boobies' was another valuable contribution by the beloved boyfriend, but does not classify as shoutable...;-)

Named a cat along the same lines - except just Mao. It maoed all the time.

How about Tafann - the irish for bark.

bark as in tree or dog?

I just saw DingDong, which makes me giggle...

(and obviously I'm very busy at work, and not 'researching' cat names at all...)

Bark as in dog. Tá an madra ag tafann = the dog is barking. Since you had wuff i though you might like to continue on a similar vein

What a gorgeous little kitten! Makes me want more kittens myself.

I really like the name Mishka... it's russian for "little bear cub", but I just love the way it sounds.

If you're sticking with Irish words as names how about "Dathuil", means handsome/good-looking... and thats one pretty kitty you got :)

    Kitties we have/have had:

Furball, Uke, Mao, Mia, Mintoe, Homer, Luci(fer), Meiko, JD, Bob, Three (3 legged ginger cat), Four (brother of Three, normal complement of legs), Five (elderly cat, 5 teeth left), Soot, Sufi, Boots, Ribbons, Princess & Big Ted. Of those, Uke, Sufi, Bob and (Tortie) Princess were/are all torties.

Be warned - if you call your cat Mao that's what she'll do  That's experience talking. :D

I think I'll name my next cat Baldrick :D

How about "C-for" as in "C-for Cat"? :) A friend of the family called her cat that.

(there was no rhyming intended there!!):D

We once had a cat that was simply called Pussy, although that probably fails the "shouting out her name" test I guess :)

Our current two are called Buffy and Holly.

  • Registered Users Posts: 109 ✭✭FunkyMissMonkey

Our current two are called Kimba and Kobi.

Back at my mums we used to have Nuss, and Roo. Then Grace and Gizmo, and more recently, Millie, Mach and Mai!

I named one of mine Neko, which is the Japanese word for cat.

Your kitty is absolutely stunning! If you think she has attitude, you could call her fire in Japanese, which is Kaji

I called mine Mr Meowgi, maybe Miss Meowgi.

At the moment, she's still called 'Miezekatze', but we'll have to properly christen her this weekend! ;-)

She's a pretty one alright, and settles in nicely ;-)
