My sister said that she got a loan with a bank of 5 grand for her car when she had NO savings in the bank but had a steady wage coming in every week

Sounds a bit odd but can anyone else back this up?

Yes. Credit is easy to get from most banks these days. They can usual approve you over the phone.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,277 ✭✭✭✭Rb

    What Gummy said.

I took out a loan a while back with no savings and it was absolutely no problem, so I'd trust her on this one.

They send you a contract detailing the terms & conditions, also the interest. Sign it and if you want the money ASAP, sign the waiver for the contract opt out period. Send them back with a photocopy of your passport and a original bill dated recently. They'll lodge to your account i think.

Then go spend the money :pac:

so do i have to go into the bank and talk to the manager and he tells me straight away if i can have it or not- or what way does it go ?

Sorry im a total loan virgin:(

No, you can do it over the phone/post as said above, or you can drop into your branch and do it there. You just meet with a personal loans advisor, and they generally approve you via computer system. Sign up the forms and money is drawen into your a/c same day.

perfectly normal. a credit union will generally require some savings alright.

If you have a credit history - credit card (paid on time) / bank account with wages payed in etc.

    If so then no prob.

would she be hot to some guy other than you?

Thanks for starting this thread, was wondering about getting a loan myself the other day but have never done it and have no savings either so thought it was a non-runner :D Yay!

Sorry for hi-jacking but was wondering also - I'm renting a house with three others (all students) so although I pay bills they are all delivered to the woman who owns the house and we give her the money. She doesn't give us rent books either (long story, we're having a lot of problems with her!) so technically there's no record of me paying rent. Is there some way around this or do I have to get her to prove that I've been paying rent/bills etc somehow??

Do you people ever sleep???? And Joanne - you're not helping. Law says landlady should have a rent book but if you(se) pay by cheque that will serve as a record, as in your bank statement.

P.S. have YOU met useful contact's sis? is she nice?:D is she? :D:D A farm too?;)

Sorry i know im being a TOTAL spaz here, is there a limit to the time you get to pay it back depending on the size of the loan

example- if i got 2 grand would i be allowed to pay it back over 60 weeks (which is the longest) or is that only for big loans (over 10 grand) says nothing about it on the website

Depends on the lender / terms of the loan / how much / what you want it for.

I think you'll get better advice if you ring a bank / broker than you will in AH.;)

Edit: what WWM said as well^^^^

Of course it's true. You don't need savings to get a loan - just a guarantee of future payment. We've never had savings but have a mortgage. And a car loan. And had a 5 year personal loan which was paid off in November. And have approval in principle for a remortgage in the 6 figure range.

civil service position / job in a state body helps a lot. Or a number of years' P60's from same employer. So. Is she?

repayment terms are different for everyone. The lender makes a decision based on your ability to repay the loan - if you have a regular income then you'll get better terms than if you're a student etc..

If you have no income and no posssible future income then you'll be refused.

You'd be allowed pay that back over 60 months (5 years) - that's the generally accepted longest for personal loans. You arrange with the bank how much you can afford per month and the loan is repaid based on that.

Yeah... And what sort of steady wage? Is it a bit of a wedge? Can't whack a bird with a motor... That's the three questions you ask, innit? Is she a looker? Does she earn? Has she got a motor? Anythin' else is a bonus.:D

You don't need anything. I got a loan online, have no savings, got a form in the post a day or two later, signed and within 2 days, 1k in the account.

i met the loan person in the bank yesterday and they said they had to email the head office and that they would call me either yeserday evening or this morning and so far no word!

    Is that bad?

Think very carefully before you go getting out any loans, I had a 5 grand car loan on my back for the better part of 2 year's when I was a peasant and it's no fun.

Sorry had only read the first part of post, if your ok with the payments etc that's cool(plus wasn't sure of your age).

Actually I went in on my lunchbreak one day and got the cash in an envelope within an hour. Was kind of surreal seeing as I made under 19k a year at the time and had no savings. Cest la vie.

well maybe it varies depending on the bank, my friend got a loan of 2k last month and walked in and got it in cash too

But im with a different bank, if they said they would call me by this morning and they havnt does that mean im rejected

    Im 22 btw

No, it just means you're dealing with a numpty.
    Ring them.
You will of course get it.
Unless you had a bad history, a 2k loan is not a big deal.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,821 ✭✭✭useful_contacts

i called the bank and it turns out i was rejected for the loan under the basis that" My wages come out of the bank too fast"

well i do have rent and bills to pay , like wtf do they expect me to do - leave my wages in the bank and not pay my bills.

Sorry for the rant but Ive been a steady customer of theres for the last 10 years(started the acc when i was 12 for my conformation money) and this is the thanks i get.

And also it seems like they go by the "If your rejected we dont get back to you " policy!

    GGGGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR:mad::mad::mad:
