Obviously it wouldn't be cheaper or they would do it. Fair enough this would indicate its higher than 15% - but you said the majority which I completely disagree with.

Its not like I'm saying MS are innocent but the terms of the warranty are that they will repair or replace. The only reason UPS pick up and drop off is because they are competing with Sony and Nintendo and therefore don't want the bad press.

Seriously though - they are doing exactly what Sony or Ninty would do in the same situation. Sony are just as big a shower of **** - people seem hasty to forget their dead pixel fiasco on the PSPs and their blatant disregard for consumers on their rootkit scandal.

Ninty fair enough have little or no bad press and learned from Sony's dead-pixel fiasco and promised to replace any DS with even one dead pixel.

Fair enough products fail, and sometimes fail more than they should, but we're talking about global conglomerates here, they didn't get to be the biggest companies in the world by being charities.

The main problem is that MS either still haven't found a design that doesn't fail or have serious problems with quality control in their factories which allow 1 in 3 consoles to go out faulty. I've had 2 elites die on me, one of which was a falcon, so the new models aren't any more 'failure-proof' than the others, it's just a numbers game.

This info is interesting though http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/digitaljoystick/archives/129866.asp

Slightly off topic, but just wanted to mention that that was Nintendo of America only. I know because I went through a lot of hassle trying to get my DS which had dead pixels replaced and in the end I had to just give up and keep it.

With regards to 360, I'm on my fourth and I've had this one since November so it's looking good. I've no problem at all with Microsoft's service in the event it does break, as their customer support has been excellent, but the design of the console is a disgrace and I'm sure MS were fully aware it was poorly constructed when they first released it, but it was important to sacrifice quality in order to release the console early and cheaply to get a lead on Sony in market share, which they've achieved and from their point of view makes up for all the costs and bad publicity, even if it makes life a misery for consumers.

On my fourth. Although the last time I called I kicked up a bit of a fuss. I wasn't too bothered in reality as I'd plenty of college stuff to be doing without having something to distract me. When I got it back they'd included a 12 month XBL Gold card in the box. I thought that was pretty decent of them.

Launch day Premium at least until i traded it in against an Elite last August.

    That Elite lasted a week.

The second Elite is fine....... so far.
