Excellent shots... Jeez Leo The Lion was sweating more then the lads who did 80 mins on the pitch..
What was the story with getting pitch side for this?? I know some of you cover Leinster regularly. Press pass work or do you need Leinster pass?

    Love the Jerry Flannery shot..

I like something different, so No. 4 for me. Something funny looking with the crowd in the first.

Surprised at Peadar with his high standards allowing that into the public domain - it's as soft as Danny LaRue

This should give an idea of what the conditions were like...

    Great picts Jordan.

Ok, here's some of mine from the game.

Bernard Jackman and Denis Leamy have a difference of opinion.

Not an easy game to cover, considering the type of play and the conditions. Mostly a pack dominate game. No real clean running.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 jordanh999

Very true Paul. The rain got me destoryed... I didn't expect to get wet as much.

The game was mostly a forward dominating game.

As the saying goes " Forwards win the game, backs decide how much"

I think it's a great shot too. The ball is pin sharp, and the rest shows motion. A very good image.

i guess for me it was a night for hookers ;) -- that Jackman shot is my favorite Paul , its those mad eyes

Very much a pack game. Jackman was man of the match. A good night for the forwards.

Just a shame that O'Gara and Stringer were taken away injured. Stringer was taken to hospital for a scan on his back and O'Gara will have a scan on his knee tomorrow.

    Good selection there, Paulw.
Three images that even Overdraft & Timblefull would have trouble finding fault with. :D
Great thing about this thread is that we covered so many angles.

Lads you should always add what cam/lens yas used so us beginners can learn a bit!

    Paulw uses a Canon 1D Mk III, with a Canon 300mm f/2.8
No offence, but any beginner with kit like that, would have more money than sense!

I have the same lens, but shoot with a Canon 40D, for the moment anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,979 ✭✭✭✭phog

Some great shots, was at the game but considering the weather forecast didn't bother with the camera, anyway I was stuck up in the South (Uncovered ) stand.

My favourite is the one with Flannery.

Kit details are all available if you check the images on Flickr or my website. Both have the EXIF data, that will show equipment and settings used.

Did anyone happen to see the front of the Examiner yesterday? Had a great shot from the Ulster Connaught game from the night before..
I am going shooting an American football game now in a while so should be interesting!!! Will post up a few when get back!

Actually, to be very, very blunt about it, this is not the information you need.

What you need is the focal length, the aperture and the shutter speed.

After that, it is what you make of it with your eye and your equipment.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,620 ✭✭✭Roen

Deadly stuff from all. If a lot of those don't make it to print there's something wrong somewhere!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 37 jordanh999

I've had my claim to fame two times, I got two in the local paper. To find out information about the shutter speed etc... When on a flickr image click on "more properties" which should give the information you are looking for.

I didn't mean I was going to go out and buy 1!!
I find it interesting what the pro's use, I know my limitations. :o
This week was when it finally came together for me, getting into dslr was so overwhelming........
I do love reading about lenses/cams/pictures etc, love it.

I don't think we're pros. More like very passionate amateurs. Professional amateurs, with a very expensive hobby that generates a little return on investment.

I would class yas as the boards pros so to speak. :p

Very true. I count photography as a hobbie which gets me outdoors. It's great having a Dad who takes photo's :)

LOL. A dad who takes photos? Now, he's more a pro than most of us here. He's a true professional, in all the meanings of the word.

The camera and lens I use is what he started of with. I reckon one day I'll beat him  in my dreams..

so with all that talk of having a photo competition between the 3 of you yesterday of who takes the better shots. I think it's time you 3 picked your best shots and let the judging begin

    :D:D:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

Kensutz hasn't posted his images yet.
The competition thing is just a bit of friendly banter.
We all help each other to improve our shots.

There's never competition, since shots will always be different.

It wasn't the easiest game to photograph though, with the nature of the play and the conditions.

Still, some great images from everyone, and I'm looking forward to seeing Ken's.

Ah, I'm sure some people will always find imperfections, especially those who know what a good image is, even if they've never tried sports photography themselves. :D

Now we just need Ken to post some images .... did he make it home alright??

He's probably depressed. Munster lost, WUFC lost, how did their gah teams do today!?

Wow, one small element of the overall composition is pin sharp, the remainder is soft at best. It does not, to my eye dsipay motion. IMHO it's a poor image and not to the standard Peadar has set himself. That was my observation and I stand over the comment.

Fault? If you dish it out be prepared to take it on the chin.

Your reply above, quoting Peadars post, demonstrates why some members believe there is a clique in operation on this forum. One has already made contact via PM since your post which in their opinion was derogatory. I didn't take it that way, though since re reading the whole thread can see their point.

I rarely if ever post negative views, if you can find any then kindly point them out. From your post it would appear that I regularly comment in such a manner.

On the other hand, I am quite prepared to accept whatever criticism comes my way, leading me to be more descerning in the images I select as keepers.

My comments weren't directed towards you, since I know you usually do sports photography.

I've no problems at all with peer comments and critiques, in fact, I welcome them.

I think the great thing about boards is the vast talent of the photographers here, and their views. Mutual sharing of experiences and interests.

I've also had a few PMs recently, about comments posted by some here. Of course, everyone is entitled to their views, right or wrong.

Yesterday was a very good example of what a great place boards is - people meeting up, having a bite to eat and a few drinks, and then some of us headed off to the game to take some photos.

I don't see any cliques in here, just photographers.

You're certainly entitled to your view of City-Exile's photo, but surely we're also entitled to our view that it's a good photo???

Didn't make it out to take any photos this weekend as I had to play two matches. Some nice photos!!

I caught the tail end of the rugby game & was thinking "God help the lads taking photos, I hope they have their Aquatech covers". :D

Dublin vs Meath this Sunday should be good with Dublin needing the win to get promoted & Meath would love nothing more than denying them promotion.

He hasn't posted yet 'cause he's probably not back from England yet be patient. All will be revealed but I'm just biased towards his work anyhow.

As for the competition it's just friendly banter, nothing sinister is ment by it & I know you guys know it's not. Still though great shots, from the two of you glad I'm not into sports photography. I've sat in Croke Park once too many times in the rain, and watched my team doing great & miserably. So given the choice of sitting the rain or on the train back to waterford I know which one I'll always pick

GAA I couldn't care less about. Norwich lost to the bunch of inbreds down the A140 which really topped off a miserable weekend. Just home now so I'll upload some pics later when I sort out the mess.

    Great great shots.

The Flannery pic is great - love the smile on Malcolm O'Kellys (my fav player) face with Leo, the line out in the rain, Jackman pics are great too........... great job all round. Was at match, brought my dad along (as usually have no one to go with me) got soaked, cheered with the best of them, delighted to see Leinster win (will be cheering on Munster in HC all the way) and then go back to car and it had a big dirty clamp on it!

I have a cannon 400D so glad i found this forum........

Bl**dy things - where i was parked there was a big dirty flood with NO sign of yellow lines....... 1.45 mins waiting for some poor unfortunate polish guys to come and 'set me free' but my dad got to have a pint in the pub and had a bit of banter with some munster supporters........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

Guys, the Simmonscourt car park is always safest and best, only €6 for the duration.

    Some more great images there.

At least, despite the rain, we all got good images.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,200 ✭✭✭kensutz

Paul - my ticket blew off the dashboard and managed to find it stuck under my seat. I moved the car twice from when I bought the ticket.

    Ah well enjoyable day anyhow.
