Metal Gear Online Euro Beta - free to everyone, April 21-May 6

Metal Gear Online Premiere Beta will be available as a free download on the PLAYSTATION® Store from April 17th (12:00 CEST) until May 6th (10:00 CEST).

The beta phase features two maps, four gameplay modes, the SOP System that encourages up to 16 players to team up and share information, and deep skill-customization. Also equipped with auto-matching and training modes, the game offers players a sneak peak of this totally new approach to console-based competitive gaming.

The Premiere Beta of Metal Gear Online starts on April 21st (00:00 CEST) and ends on May 6th (24:00 CEST).

Metal Gear Online will be included with Metal Gear Solid 4, which will be released on June 12, 2008.

Is this a pure coincidence with the release of GTA 4.

I was wondering if this news was pushed by sony ,because they think that gta4 might not be as good as it was suppose to be.

They don't make GTA4. GTA4 will sell loads regardless so I do not think how good GTA4 is is high on their agenda.

Microsoft are the one's pushing GTA IV.

Sony have their own games to worry about. And this beta is completely unrelated regardless. The date has little to do with timing strategy and everything to do with when MGS is actually ready.

To prepare for it, though, you have to register an ID with Konami:

The site is dog slow for me at the moment, but unfortunately it's required if you want to partake in the beta. You can register for an ID now, the beta will be available tomorrow.

Hmm. Seems the beta servers won't be up until Monday. So plenty of time to try and figure out Konami's awful website

Are you sure that's needed for Europe? I was under the impression from what I'd read that we were getting an open beta here while people in the US and Japan had to register.

I'm not sure but from what I've heard it looks like the Konami ID is necissery for MGO in general, rather than a beta code issue.

I still can't get my damn konami id. I'm working late today so I won't be able to get near my PS3 until tomorrow,and with this id crap taking so long I'll never get to play the beta:mad: why do we have to get this anyway, whats wrong with just using the PSN id?!:mad:

beta is up on the store , downloading it now ( 741 megs ) but i can't even open the konami website to get an ID .

apparently there's and in game portal to access the konami id, according to ign.com

trying to download the update 1.01 and it is very hit and miss with errors all over the place , forcing you to quit the game and then restart the game to try and get the update downloaded .

seems to hold the info it has already downloaded so your not starting at 0% all the time , but this is looking like it's going to try peoples Patience .

this better not be a repeat of konami's PES2008 attempt......at the moment it's looking worse!! Keep getting network error every time i try to download the update :mad:

It really is. Online gaming still seems to be in its infancy in Japan. It always seems to be little more than an afterthought. They messed up PES2008, now this. Thank god its only a beta.

Maybe not officially, but they've got exclusivity on the TV advertising and they've heavily promoted the exculsive downloadable content- both deals which have cost Microsoft big bucks. Microsoft have put more money into GTA IV than Sony.

hi, i had it downloaded it got to 9% and i said f this im turning it off, it took 36 mins to get to 9% !!

edit, changed settings and it downloaded in ONE HOUR

I was reading it took someone 5 hours to complete it on a 8mb line!!

I'll think i'll just leave it on overnight.
