When it comes to competition do any of you think there's room for a gun designed specifically for airsoft needs rather than as a replica of real steel?

The gun could maybe be smaller lighter and feed the BBs in a more efficient way (maybe from the top down instead of bottom up) solving winding problems on high cap mags.

It just dawned on me last time I opened up my guns there's allot of empty space in there meaing there's allot of unnecessary weight.

to me that defeats the purpose of airsoft, there are 'competitions' but that side is normally focused more on real work tactics and realism aka a number of cqb comps i've come across but we are not paintball :P

I'm with pudding on this one although we could make 'airsoft variants' of some guns that are smaller and lighter that there real world counterparts but then you would basically be going for 3/4 scale

I figured that would be the response. :D

It's just that you may be able to gain an advantage with a gun specifically designed to fire BBs rather than a gun design altered to fire BBs.

yes you could easily construct something that is far more effective than your normal aeg, but if someone wanted to do that i would strongly recommend they look at many be a different sport than airsoft

If it was done, it would have to be a bullpup.

The only real benefit of a specific gun not modelled of a Real Steel counter-part is "Monster" type of game from a site I saw, where scientists make a monster so a gun like that would fit into it.

But other than that it defeats the point.

Loosely but the stock, reciver, barrel, scope rail are completly different.

As i say, based on lol

If some company did make some custom AEG design, then they'd simply base the internals on a common model with a flexible layout, like the way most of the non-real steel pistol designs are basically the 1911 dressed up with extra bits. It wouldn't be worthwhile for them to try and reinvent the wheel - most of the ergonomic problems have been resolved in one way or another with the orginal real steel versions, and the majority of players want something based on real steel anyway.

As iceage says, it sounds like you'll end up with a paintball gun if you try and make a specialised 'bb ejection device'.

Of course, I'm biased and bitter, I've spent several hours trying to reassemble a Version 2 gearbox today, and I've having a hard time telling the screws apart from teeth splinters at this stage...

both those rifles mentioned have REAL life round firing cousins i believe, naming maybe different but the chasis are the same.

id love to see some famous films weapons, ive seen hte robocop pistol as a springer, that would get my first buy if it was gas or electric :)

    to name a few

    robocop pistol
    aliens marines assault rifle
    Equilibriums pistols
    western style pistols
    a winchester rifle

and from the box versions of tony montanas m16 or whatever grenade launcher assault rifle, i believe arnie also uses this in predator.

tbh im not gna lie, one day your gna see me on site in a leather jacket and hawain t-shirt brandishing two berettas, replicating slow mo dives...max payne anyone

I think you'll find that there are airsoft versions of almost all of the the stuff you've mentioned. Not that I've seen them all in the flesh, but if you scour the threads here you'll find discussions on how to buy or build those pieces... They can be pricey, since you need to build them on top of existing AEGs (which is probably what they did for the movie versions).

robocop pistol- there is one from KSC, the auto 9
aliens marines assault rifle- Available as a kit for thompsons i think
Equilibriums pistols- No idea what they are
western style pistols- Colt single action army? Available and sexy :D
a winchester rifle- Not sure but i think i've seen one

and from the box versions of tony montanas m16 or whatever grenade launcher assault rifle, i believe arnie also uses this in predator- M16A2+Sun project M203 launcher...Very nice i must say. Can't see anyone making an out of the box version though...

EDIT-Equilibriums pistols seem to be a Beretta Match varient

No , there is no real steel version of the G3 SAS , the mag is based on a 7.62 round , but the bolt and cocking handle are based on an MP5K 9mm round.
If they actually built this in real steel you could never even cock it let alone fire it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

ive seen the robocop pistol as a cheap plastic springer, but not gas or electric.

also aint been able to find the aliens assault rifle , that would definatly get bought by me

anyone afford to provide some links please, as im in college and cant get onto shopping websites

god im gna spend soo much money when i get back from holidays, my girlfriend has gone and robbed my credit card to stop me buying **** online :D

Taking the anal route here.....They are specifically designed to shoot bbs.

i dont know about airsoft aegs but an aeg with internals that can be taken out and put in another body so you can have an ak 1 minute and an m4 the next. that would be cool

  • Registered Users Posts: 23,137 ✭✭✭✭TheDoc

lol priced the m4 aliens pulse rifle kit for the thomspon, its 460 euros, for a kit, aeg not even included...lol what a rip off

I warned you! It's a limited custom kit, not mass-produced like the average AEG, and you'd be very unlikely to take it for a good day's skirmishing. Even a good AEG is up to €500 and beyond.

Can i ask why would you want one that doesnt look like a real steel?
Although i have seen a pistol that isnt based on any real steel.
