I absolutlley love nuts any type, cashews, brazil, peanuts, pistachioetc. So at the moment thats what I am snacking on but its getting a bit outta hand. Was looking online and it was saying that 18 cashews is around 160 cals !!At the moment I have cut down on fruit intake was having way to many carbs and replace with high protein high fat diet which is working well for me. But I am gonna have to watch how much of these I am eating even though they are nutritious. What is a portion?

A 200g of almonds usually lasts me about 3 days if that is any help.

Nuts contain lots of good fat and I heard somewhere that almonds contain a appetite suppressant. Not sure how true that is.

They are also high in protein & would be my snack of choice along with a tub of grapes and bottle of water.

Thanks, Ah ye I know they are great for ya, but like I said I never know when to stop LOL I am gonna have to keep an eye on it though because it could easily push my daily calories over ! And no matter what you eat if you eat more than you burn off your gonna gain weight !

When I buy a bag of nuts, I generally split it right away into 30g portions, and put each one into a small ziplock bag (the sort of you get Animal Pak in). For me, 30g is a good portion, but I could easily eat a kilo of nuts in a day.

I usually buy 35g of almonds at lunchtime everyday. Do they have loose nuts in supermarkets in Ireland? Like pick 'n' mix with different raw/roasted nuts? So cheap here, about 60c today for 35/40g almonds. If I had to buy them in big bags like they used to come in in Ireland I'd eat them all in one go. While I'm here - can you buy hummus in supermarkets in Ireland, would it be common? And whatabout wholemeal pittas, the big ones that are about the size of a 12" pizza? And finally, can you buy fresh sun dried tomatoes from the deli counters by weight?
    ta!

Thats actually a really good idea! I reckon that would help keep an eye on how much I am eating . EileenG can you tell me how many cals you are finding in 30g of cashews / brazil nuts ?

Cashews are not a favourite so I don't eat them often. Almonds are around 180 cals per 30g, Brazil nuts are 210 or so. Reckon 200-ish for most nuts.
