Slow / Timeouts

Is there one machine of a cluster down, or something along those lines? One in every X requests are either very slow (up to 30-40 seconds for HTML to start loading) or timeout completely. X is undefined, but most requests are lightning fast. I'm on Digiweb Metro but tested from UK and US as well.

Having loads of problems too. It's very slow.

Yea I've been experiencing this problem as well. I initially put it down the fact I was on my work's wireless and not wired as I normally am.

Yup, seems to be something dead in the wheels.

    Replacement hamster! STAT!

I've not noticed much with boards ,but other .ie sites are timing out for me.

It's running a bit slow but hasn't timed out at all for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

ISP issue then. Im with Irish Broadband. Admittedly its running less than its brightest today but its not causing me any issues: it may just be peak time.

try running this application to test your speed: http://www.speedtest.net

    Thanks for that.

I've bookmarked it for future reference. The pages are taking ages to load at the moment. At least now I know what's up.

Finally, I get to respond to this thread...major timeout problems for me just now.

EDIT: Ah, just saw the twitter thing, I'll look there in future.

Believe me, I am more than aware :)

It seems to have been mitigated for the moment, but can't consider it fixed because we haven't identified precisely what the problem is, just the symptoms.

I'll update the twitter page whenever I have something useful to report.

    Sound as a pound. :)

As an aside, what name have you called the boards stuff? I sorta assumed it would be a female name?

Actually the last 2 are mine: back off :)

Name them after users. Who doesn't want to see status updates like "Sorry for the time-outs, but Pighead went down again"?

I had to go outside today. :( The rain...it burns! Thanks for the hard work guys. It is appreciated.

Can credit Asok for getting everything back up and running. That was some serious downtime and it took us hours to track each successive problem down, so sorry for your lack of boards.ie this evening folks.

Fair play lads. Been pretty bored of my tree all evening and had nothing decent to read :p. Apart from Cloud defending the move to Digiweb on AskAboutMoney and challanging Colm on Hosting 365 which I have to say was very amusing!

    Which thread was that?

    Mike.

Looking good here, you must have evicted these particular bugs.

Or was it a size 12 in the back of the server! :D

Sorry folks Terry is on the piss again, so excuse the delays...

Alternatively, Hamster names; which makes complete sense to me.

And now I wanna do a server casemod that will actually house a hamster cage..

    Lucky for some.

Actually it's not. Any anatomical advantage which accompanies the large feet is negated by having to stand around for a half hour every time you try to buy footwear only for the person to inevitably come back and say "Sorry we don't actually have that in a 13 but I have this random crappy looking clog in an 11 if that's any good to ya?".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86,729 ✭✭✭✭Overheal

yeah but when you do find 13's theyre built like tanks :)
