LA Fitness - any good?

Hi, I'm currently a memeber of Carlisle and I'm starting to get annoyed with a) how long I have to queue for the machines and b) the amount of kids pissing about in the pool. I'm thinking of moving to LA Fitness but it's twice the price and the pool looks tiny in comparison.

    Any LA Fitness members here?

I'm in LA, go there most lunchtimes either for a swim or just to use the weights as a change to sitting at my desk. I'm training for a team 6 days a week as it is so don't really go in there for a serious workout but I find the gym clean enough, in decent nick and generally grand for what I'm looking for. Very small free weights section so if that's what your going for I'd give it a miss. Don't have any problem with the pool size myself and I'd spend up to 45 mins at a time doing lengths. In terms of staff I wouldn't rate them very highly but then I don't exactly need them for anything.

    Hope that helps

It does, thanks. I usually just use the X-trainer and the machines for arms and abs, followed by a 15-20 min swim. I'm tempted by the fact they have aqua aerobics classes too, which Carlisle don't have...

My first gym in London for almost 2 years was LA fitness. It was tiny and pretty limited in terms of free weights (just one oly barbell and power cage for everyone to use to bench & squat).

Just joined an LA fitness in Seattle last week. Massive and really well equipped. Best gym I've ever seen: Pool, basket ball court, cardio floor with machines, then also huge free weights floor. No queueing.

Best bet is to go visit the place yourself.

LA is fine, good staff and well kept. But as Peadar says the weights room is too small and gets crowded with even 4 or 5 people in it.

If you like machines there's lots of them to play around with and there's plenty of spinning type courses for the 'girls'

I'm a member there and use it to help me train for my sport. There's a reasonable selection of machines, and plenty of classes. The pool is fine, although the Sauna has been broken for quite a while now. The weights section is far too small and limited. All in all, I presume that it's a pretty average regular gym. Numbers attending have been steadily dropping off since the New Year, so things aren't as crowded as they were before.
