    Hi

I joined a gym last year but due to work throwing me the other side of the country i could not fulfill my membership. want to get back into the gym rountine again, bascially want to to tone up put a bit of muscle back on. thing is im thinking of just getting one of thise home gym machines for about 400.

what are people's views on these.. in my head it seems the best way to go, least it be easy to use ie no travelling, won't lose out on any memebership if work things go a miss again can always move it with me...

maybe im missing out on the cons..?

    Cheers

    Arrian

    Hi
one of thise home gym machines for about 400.

maybe im missing out on the cons..?

you will soon out grow the weight stack and for 400 the one you would get would be close to bottom of the line , If I was buying anything for the house it would be a power rack have a look at www.irish-lifting.com they do a pretty decent one for 450 , you will also need bar's a bench and of course weights , It will add up to well over 400 but you get what you pay for , the site's run by the guy on this board callled Mickk your best bet is to pm him for advice he wont steer you wrong ,

bottom line is if your only prepaired to spend 400 your better off with a gym membership

Join a gym dude. If you're like the vast majority of people having people around you exercising at the same time is a big motivation and driver in itself.

well 400 was just a figure from my head, would spent up to 500 - 550 mark

my job can take up alot of my time and dont want time wasting getting ready , driving it to it etc... these are all pros for getting it but the cons are few that i can think of.. cons.. no threadmill etc.. (can always go for run) losiong social aspect (i'd get over that)

Yup and once you're prepared to spend thousands on growth hormone like "Rocky" you could look like him too. Hey it may cost thousands, but you're not spending it on gym gear sure!!

If there is a decent gym near you, join it. Once you know what you are doing and have the bug, you can buy a good bench press, power rack and set of free weights for your own home gym. Much better value and more versitile than a machine.

There's a lot to said for having your own gym, you can work out when ever you like, wear what you like (or nothing at all if you want), have your own music, and never queue for a station. On the downside, you don't have a spotter, and it's amazing how urgently I need to sort socks when it comes to leg day.
