Do Jackie Skellies not have changing rooms?

    Sorry, I couldn't resist - I'll get me coat! :)

That's all they bloody have. Endless changing rooms, saunas, wet rooms, even a special room for drying your hair. And not a single squat rack in the whole place.

I live five months from the new gym. I'll shout as soon as I see it open.

Opps, sorry. To make up for it, I'm going out to buy some milk, and I'll take a look if the gym is open yet.

I've heard a rumour that it actually won't be a proper gym, might just be an ecudogym or a personal trainer place.

There really doesn't seem to be any room to put a proper sized gym in the shopping complex so I'd say it'll be a personal trainer studio or a curves style set-up.

Ewww! I want a real gym. Still, if they concentrate on weights and not endless cardio machines, they could put a good gym in the space. The pit, the actual working bit of Image in Swords is tiny, but it gets the job done.

What's the damage like on Image? What have they in terms of free weights/squat racks?

The gym itself in Image is great, and the people there are excellent (only gym I've used where they will spot you) but the showers are crap.

    They've got a website with details http://www.imagegym.com/equipment.htm

You can pay a basic fee and then pay by the week, or pay upfront, which is better value if you work out regularly. I got a couple of extra months free because I paid in cash.

Just passed the gym on Broimhe and it's got a sign in the window saying "Mi Gym" Does this mean anything to anyone?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 13,425 ✭✭✭✭Ginny

Yeah saw that during the week, it also has "fitness centre" in smaller font.
Goggling didn't throw up anything, although the fitness centre bit screams a curves type place to me.

Typical. Like Swords needs another Curves place. Didn't they connect that there's a really hard core taekwondo club in River valley, whose members would pay to lift weights?

And probably pay not to go to JS as well.
    :D

I'd pay not to go to JS. Any gym where a staff member can giggle and say "I don't know how to use the leg press" and tell me seriously that she has no idea what a deadlift is, is not for me.

Or tell me I'm lying about what my food intake it...

Oh just was told its a new PT thingy, €750 for the year or €650 if you join now, they're handing out flyers in Super value, iItold my informer to tell them its only €250 in Northwood for a proper gym:D

JS told you you were lying about your food?

750??? They've got to be kidding.

    A WHAT?

You didn't know? There are more black belts in that club than all other colours put together, and it seems they are always in training for the next World or European championships.

They ran a beginner's class for women and they lost a total of 30 stone.

They did indeed Eileen, also wouldn't let a family member train due to high BP, then wouldn't let them cancel their membership even though they weren't allowed into the place.
    Shower of F-ers they are.

So the new gym is www.migym.ie I'll try and scan in the flyer today.

I have the flyer is anyone is interested PM me, its too big to attach and i don't have time to sort it.
    :D

Their website isn't working yet, which doesn't inspire confidence.

You have made me so happy I didn't join JS.

    Hi guys,

Any update on how much they're charging at migym? I live in Ridgewood so it would be ideal but Im already paying for a gym in the city centre so am pretty limited to what I can pay.

Last time I rang a gym I ended up doing a tour and joining the gym before I could even blink...so I am being hesitant this time!!

    thx

When I spoke to them, they were a little cagey about exact price, but I gathered around 500 euro a year, but that is supposed to include a personal trainer.

Cagey is right, I have emailed twice and all they say is to go in to get a tour...I know their game, they want me to go in, see the lovely shiny new machines and I will hand over my credit card. Cos I will...thats what I do and they know it!

Lets see if my third email gets a response!

Go and have a look, but leave your credit card at home. That way, if you like it, you can go back with your card, but they can't pressure you into signing up on the spot. Or tell them that you are already in a gym with another month to run on your membership. You never know, they might offer you a deal to switch.

That sounds a little like the 'assesment' I was unfortunate enough to witness while at the gym last week. I was almost crying she was so bad at programming/teaching.

What gym was that? And what made it so bad?

They have given a sales staff a trainer top and got them to show people around the gym on occasion, as an ex trainer i think this is terrible, makes qualified people look bad, even the most basic instructor knows how to use the Leg press.

Ginnyjoe if an instructor said your lying about your diet then you probably where! most people do anyway, not deliberate but they forget certain things!

if your gaining weight and saying you eat very little then most trainers who have a clue will know your telling porkies! ps, im guessing what happened as this is common among people in denial in gyms.

Sheldon Park. She brought him into the weights room, and over to the leg press showed it to him, without demonstrating and breezed quickly to the lat pull down did the same thing and breezed quickly to the shoulder press, it was at this point she got close enough for me to hear she told him what the machine was called then walked over towards the free weights, said "do you want to do a bench press?" before he could even think "do you want to do free weights?" she the proceeded to 'demonstrate' some random exercises, I use the term demonstrate very lightly here as she just did a quick and gammy 'shoulder press' without weights in her hands, a quick and even gammier single arm row...then looked at me as I was doing the french press and asked him if he wanted to work his triceps she then proceeded to show him overhead tricep extension, again without a weight in her hand, tricep dips and an unbelievably ****ty demonstration of a kickback. I'd continue but it will get me annoyed again.
