im reasonably fit - i ride horses, swim and workout in the gym daily. id love to be able to go for a jog otuside on these lovely spring evenings we've been having but one problem - i cant run...
i try and go as long as i can on the treadmill , which usually maxs out at about 10 minutes jogging...at a slow pace.
is it just a case of pushing myself to do it or are some people just not suited to running?!?!????

What are you finding hard? Lungs burning? Shins hurting?

when i started running last year(aout this time last year) i had to stop 4 times over the space of maybe 3/4's of a mile and i would be in absolute tatters after it.

by the end of the summer i could run 10k stopping once for about 30 secs. it jsut takes time like anything in fitness.

pick a target(around the block for example if you are as bad as you say you are) and do it. if you get too tired or out of breath stop and walk for a while then run again. dont worry about how many times u gotta stop on your way around just make sure you start running again when you get your breath back. you will be doing it non stop in no time and can extend your route

I was the same and bought this fab book - Running Made Easy (Susie Whalley & Lisa Jackson) it gives a number of different training programmes - The complete novice who wants to run 3km. The 10km plan , the half marathon and the full marathon. It was great starting at the beginning which is basically run 3 mins walk 3 mins and builds up. Once you get into it, set yourself a goal. I'm on the 10km plan and have entered into Cork City Marathon as part of relay. I can't believe the progress I've made!!! I found the book to be brilliant as quick read and would keep you motivated. It has loads of tips and written in a fun realistic way. Good luck!:)

    +1

That book is fantastic for people who aren't naturally inclined towards exercise (no reflection on you!). Everytime I need a bit of motivation I pull it out and give myself grand ideas...that someday soon I will carry out! :o

Did you follow the book from the start? I was following a different "plan" before I got it so I have never actually applied their "method". I lapsed when I finished college and with the longer evenings I'm thinking of getting going again so it might be a good time to start from the beginning.

www.posetech.com has videos on the technique of running

    Some introduction to pose running.

The basic idea behind pose is that most running instruction is on training plans and very little on technique. Might be worth checking out.
