Amazing film. Better than The Empire Strikes Back.

I dunno if I'd go that far... a definite 9.7 out of ten though. Very much underrated IMO.

Fair assessment. However it's not as good as
    "The Hottie and the Nottie"
which is already Number 1 on the IMDB chart

Top drawer flick and worthy of all the praise bestowed on it.

    Perma sticky this thread

    Absolutely fantastic film.

The performances are top-drawer - possible 'Best Actor' Oscar for Sean Maguire next year. Carmen Electra played the whorish type perfectly.. which is a wild departure from her usual film roles.

Some of the jokes are quite low-key while others are up "in your grill" - the humour in this is far smarter and coherent than anything Judd Apatow or Wes Anderson have made.

Truly one of the finest films of the year.. and if doesn't get at least 4 Oscars next February, I shall eat my new hat.

About bloody time this got 'Film of the Week'! I got so sick of seeing the likes of 'Bladerunner' and 'The Godfather' win, when we have this modern classic.

What I really like is the way the humour works on multiple levels - when a boxer appears, one level of the audience can appreciate it's a satire of 'Rocky'. The film makers though are inclusive and respectful of everyone, and have 'Rocky' embalzoned on his shorts. Noone is left behind in this playful sketch and it's this welcoming, open-hearted approach to comedy that makes this an absolute gem.

Top marks and, to be honest, it shows why there's no more need for 'Film of of the Week' as there's nothing going to top this.

Don't be so hasty with your clothing!

Like with "There Will Be Blood" Oscar committees frequently snub the truly worthy films even when its staring them square in the faeces.

It could just be a case once again that AMPAS just aren’t ready for a film as revolutionary as “Meet the Spartans”.

Easily one of the best film of all time. I can't believe the amount of people who dismissed this in favour of crap like No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood. Also it's a shame it wasn't released in time for the Oscars. Kevin Sorbo and Carmen Electra would've been sure to win. Pfft Javier Bardem

to keep the balance and equilibrium that compliments boards, where someone has to have a complete contrasting view

i hated meet the spartans, i thought it was pretty crap tbh

i guess i was jsut let down from the guys who brought us masterpieces like date movie, epic movie, funny movie, pills movie, junkie movie, rape movie, not really funny generic ****e movie and april movie

    :P

    Miles better than Citizen Kane.

Its a shoe-in for best original screen play next year. Head and shoulders above the recent winners such as Juno, Little Miss Sunshine and Crash. This will give writers new levels to aspire to for years to come.

Words fail me when talking about the mejestic nature of Meet the Spartans. Few films have even come close to true greatness and none have do it so well as Meet the Spartans. Why it isn't being shown on all 6 screens in my local cinema I will never know.

Obviously the intelligent, well scripted humour of Meet The Spartans goes over some peoples heads.

Meet the Spartans > every other film ever made.

I think it has so much to say about the transience of life, the futility of violence, and so many questions about the very nature of human existence. I cried. I was shocked. I laughed. I was moved. A masterpiece of the highest order.

In fact, after watching, I was so stunned I went off and became a Tibetan monk to give me years to reflect on the complex themes of the film.

Speaking of the list where has the "previous FOTW" topic gone? I dont understand why that topic was closed off.Surely having access to this is
the least people who voted on it deserve. Some people voted on the FOTW
religiously for 63 weeks and now can't even look at the list.
This film forum has become a bit of a dictatorial film forum....:(
I'm staying away from it from now on....

Im not ashamed to admit that I hate this film more than anything, which is quite remarkable considering I've never seen it and never plan to.

That's a terrible attitude! You should have at least done what every other poster on this thread has done i.e. watched the movie before passing judgement.

This is the film that started it all!

This is the movie that has lead to such an explosion of Swords & Sandals classics we've seen from Hollywood.

I hope that wanna be Ridley Scott (for Gladiator) and those amateurs (by comparison) who made 300 pay due homage to this movie.

I will tell you why, it will be blindingly clear to anyone who has had privilege to have seen Meet the Spartans, that it was a huge influence on both Gladiator and 300, or as the Spartans themselves would have said all that time ago in the bygone days of yore "...you got served sucka..."

You're saying all the posts here are blowing you away? Have you fallen off your seat yet with all the laughter? And you really shouldn't have mentioned the word 'relevant' as it doesn't even apply here. All my posts have been in response to what has gone on in this thread. Unlucky.

I'm just hoping my local keeps it in another week as 6 viewings really isn't enough to appreciate the subtle humour on offer. It really deserves that 7th viewing.
