Rose Of Tralee Rule Change

    Didn't know this rule existed!

The Rose of Tralee is changing its criteria to allow single mothers to enter the competition.

Up until now, mothers have not been allowed to take part in the 49-year-old pageant.

Other criteria require that the entrant be aged between 18 and 27 and not be married.

    Thought it was Tubridy.

He did a bit in his column in the Sunday World about meeting Frank Vincent of Goodfellas/Sopranos/Casino/Permanent TSB fame. It began something like

"Hey Tommy! Go back home and get your shinebox! One of the most memorable quotes from Goodfellas......"

For such a chronically awful misquoting of a line from one of the greatest scenes in cinema history the man should be burnt alive tbh.

Or kicked to death in a bar brawl by Joe Pesci.

    Why would they change this?

A Rose Of Tralee who's a single mother would be a horrible example to be setting for the kids these days.

Also, they should think about their audience, I mean it's mainly old people who'll be watching and therefore won't approve of it, killing future ratings for it.

There are other ways to end up a single mother than getting locked in a field and having a fumble with your boyfriend when your 16 you know.

surely the ability to still enter the Rose of tralee is the best pro-abortion arguement ever.:D

IMO single mothers should be excluded on the grounds that to fulfil the role as Rose of Tralee in various venues around the world during the term of office an amount of neglect towards the child(ren) would be required. That's based on the premis that all entrants have a chance of winning.

It's not socially smart to promote dumping the kids on someone for a year while you galavant being Rose of Tralee.

As long as they don't make it compulsory to be a single mother, I don't see what the big deal is.

The public don't get a vote, this makes it more likely that a singlke mother could win.

Oh course mothers aren't allowed in - if you're a mother, you've had sex, OUTSIDE OF WEDLOCK haven't you? Ipso facto, fvck off.

Stand by now for the Tallagh Rose to be 'esocrted' by here fourteen year old son.

Ands ANOTHER THING - how come trhis thread has gotten to twenthy-something posts and without a simgle mention of Yore Ma?

Should be ashamed of yourselves. Fvcking perverts.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Do the maths on the Tallaght Rose, with the fourteen year old son as the escort,

since the rules say you must be aged between 18-27 years old to enter the competition,

"the Tallaght rose" stretching the definition of rose to its limit, was less than 13 when she gave birth!

Back to school for you , you can't spell or do maths!, YORE MA's ashamed of YA!

Wouldn't a Rose with sprogs interfere with her shoplifting once crowned?

I opened this thread at the same time one of the Bertie / Fianna Fail / election threads and saw this and a reply to "who's gonna vote for someone with stretchmarks?"..... thought you were talkign abotu Brian Cowen, et al.

Regarding widows - as long as said widow has not had sex either before the marraige are after the husband's passing. This is a catholic country, dammit!

    Your right!

There must be an opening for a talent contest for "third generation single mums" at this stage.

Just look at that english girl, shannon matthews mother, seven kids from 5 fathers and she is still young enough to enter the Rose of tralee! Role model material of what!

Who would or what category, would she represent?

I dont think these types of 'competitons' where women get judged on their looks and how demure and lovely they are have any place in Ireland today.

Rose of Tralee along with Miss Ireland etc should all be scrapped.

You couldn't get rid of annual events like these, the Podge & Rodge's of the irish community would pour onto the streets in protest, which would not be a pretty sight, especially with their pants around their ankles!!

Its events like these, thats give these lads value for money from the TV licence!

    There's also another couple of rule changes this year in addition to the single mothers clause;

    1. You do not have to wear the dress you wore to your Debs

    and

    2. Good looking women are now allowed to enter.

    :D
