Rudest Staff member in UCD

I went into the Health Sciences library this morning and approached the counter. The grumpiest guy I have ever met stood with his back to me looking at the ceiling and actually shouted at me 'what the hell do you want?'.
I witheld the primal urge to jump the counter and rip his head off as turns out I am far more restrained that I would have thought.
Obviously a bit taken aback, I said 'excuse me?' He then shouted again, 'service doesn't start until 9!'
I just said 'yeah mate, nice one' and walked off but what an absolute muppet.
I'd complain to someone in there if I thought it would make a difference, but that would be unlikely.
Some of these guys wouldn't last a week in a real job.

That's a bit much - rudeness is never the answer.

I have often felt like writing a letter to Insomnia to complain about two particular individuals who are bad mannered, have a poor demeanor and do not practice customer service in any way. It is such a pity that one of their best and pleasant staff members is never on the tills as it such a pleasure the odd time she is.

I also have a complaint against two individuals serving food in the Student Bar. On two occasions when I've noticed that the chicken as part of the main dish was slightly undercooked. I as you would brought it up to the register to raise this with these individuals.

The first occasion was not so fine with one individual smiling and turning his back on me. They gave me a refund.

The second occasion was really bad, with the two of them shouting at me and me shouting back at them saying that they aren't cooking the chicken properly. They were saying that it wasn't the 'first time' and I retorted saying that its the second time its happened. Both of them implied that I was trying to scam refunds to the main bar staff member. But I got my refund in the end.

In all future occasion that I decide to have food there I will have either chips and chicken goujons or the la carte menu.

Has to be the blode-ish Eastern european woman in her 40's that works in the Grind sandwich bar - I also see her the the sports bar cafe from time to time. The look of disgust on her face as she serves is horrendous.

I found that a lot of the UCD staff are very rude - definitely jealously!

The dark haired woman who works in the vet canteen is the rudest person I have ever met - a grunt is polite for her ! You're lucky if your tea isnt scalded over you !

Which health science guy was that? I usually find the staff in the health science library quite pleasent to deal with, apart from 2 times, first was when the toilet roll ran out in the disabled toilet and I went up to the counter looking for toilet roll... your man went mad saying that I couldn't use that toilet!! In fairness I see where he was coming from. And the second was when I was looking to book a group study room and went to the desk on the second floor at about 1:57, the woman sitting at the desk said that she is on a break until 2 and continued to read her book with me standing in front of her for 3 minutes... ignorant b1tch!!!

Definitely email the head librarian in the Health Sciences library, they take these complaints seriously.

Yea the 911 staff are fairly passive agressive, I imagine they get paid one shiny penny an hour though so I don't take it personally.

I find that "Careers Services" are very bad at responding to emails and sending out promised information they need to get their act together.

It's been a while since i've eaten there but nearly all the staff in the main restaurant, especially back when down stairs was open were really rude and annoying. even when it came to simple things like taking two cups for coffee because its servied at 15million degrees and they dont give u those little cup holders, the elderly lady at the checkout told me she was gonna charge me for two coffees because i'd taken two cups, one sitting inside the other. I took the coffee off my tray and said, i'm not paying for either, gave her the cash for my food and walked off. They're particularly narky if you dont clean ur table, even if its an honest mistake.

One of the guys in arts services, the tall guy with the glasses is really unhelpful. In fact quite a few of the arts services people are less than helpful. One who is really nice is the elderly gent, always found him to be sound as pound.

speaking of good staff, i've found quinn services, particularly the girl with the glasses to be really helpful.

oh, and i'm not a big fan of the baldy guy in the Kiosk either. not so much coz he's rude but just general demenour.

I'm sure i'll think of more!

I have to be honest and say I've never had any bad encounters with any staff in UCD...looks like I'm one of very few. I'm quite shocked....hmmmm.

I'm going to be on the look-out for all the grumpy gits now tomorrow :)

oh yeah that blonde girl in 911 . shes very ignorant. would almost put you off going there.

Alot of the staff in 911 are just rude as f*ck. However if I were working there full time earning minimum wage and serving snotty rich kids all day, I probably wouldn't be very chirpy either!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,481 ✭✭✭Fremen

That dude in the bike shop can either be really friendly or rude as hell. I have a feeling he tosses a coin when you come in...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,134 ✭✭✭gubbie

I wouldn't say all of them are bad in 911. In 3 years of being in UCD I have come across one nice one...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,246 ✭✭✭✭Riamfada

Im sorry but i have to agree that 911 staff are awful. I have often considered complaining to 911 head office regarding the state of food/coffee but always being snorted at when you "have nothing smaller" to pay with, or ask for a coffee... its a painful necessity when its the only place open but i try not to go there

Following some complaints I got in an email earlier today, I have had to delete a number of posts in this thread and hand out a few bans. You should all have known better, and I can't see myself lifting these any time soon.

Maybe raphel we should know who the e-mail originator was (i.e. the SU president, corporate management of chains or whatnot). There seems to be an attitude of crying foul at boards.ie from quangos in UCD's administration who like writing e-mails to silence things. At least then we would know who has complained without the offending posts being online and libellous.

Hey Raphael, I had a genuine bad experience and felt the need to post in the OP. I can understand the way this thread could lose the run of itself and do I agree that names or descriptions of people should not be posted.

I've been advised by the admins not to do this, let;s just say it was someone who was well within their rights to send it

That's fine, just so long as it;s not bad enough to evoke as many external complaints as the 911 posts.

I cant believe this im shocked and appauled. Raph used to be cool but I seen Dr Brady going into an empty room under the arts block and Raph coming out. Im exceptionally angry at not being able to voice my opinion of poor service in UCD, especially as it costs me 4500 a year and now that our moderator has taken to carrying the torch for representing the administration on this forum ! I have been marching around the student center today campaigning for the resignation of our mods. I have sent a strongly worded letter to Dr Brady, Martin Bulter, Richard Butler, Head of Services, Head of the Arts cafe and that lady who hoovers the trap at 9pm ! Outraged.

    may not actually be true

This has gone on long enough.

I find it mildly depressing that my April Fools joke on the forum of posting a deliberately excessive reaction to something was greeted with acceptance and debate. DO you all really think so little of me?

    I'm not rich :(

And I get minimum wage too, I don't blame the customers though. If it wasn't for the customers I wouldn't have a job!!!

Well I got banned yesterday for sticking up for UCD, or so it seemed for a very short period of time, and then over on the Mac forum someone actually got perma site banned by the Admins, so at least I've an excuse for being paranoid :o

I always am amused by them, I remember one sunday morning seeing the staff refuse to sell a guy a roll they had made for him because he only had a 20e note.

Rudest staff member? Nah, we don't do rude, that'd be a trinity affair....

That is unbelievable . What I love though is when there is a cue for coffee and none for food and food guy wont help out coffee guy because food guy just does food.

End of the day i do whatever I can to avoid 911 but a decent coffee shop would really turn that area of campus into a social hub.

ps: P*Monster : id love to complain about 911 to its manger but i have never met one there nor have been able to find contact details for one. If I do ill be sending a list of complaints on because im quite tired of feeling apologetic for asking for a doughnut to go with my coffee. And remember we all have degraging jobs, I was a coffee shop manager for 2 years so I think im qualified to complain about 911

yeah 911 is definately the pits. I try to avoid the place as much as possible but made the mistake of going in there today at a minute to 3 and looking for a roll. There must have been a change in shift as girl on food counter disappeared at 3 on the button. There were 5 people queing here at this stage and no-one serving. there were 2 plonkers standing at the juice bar peeling apples, 2 sulky looking yokes standing at the tills and coffee machines serving no-one. couple of minutes later someone resembling Jack Nicholson at the end of the cuckoos nest appears on the food counter. Don't know why they have such things as Chilli sausage roll or whatever it is up on the menu cos they still ask you what you want in it and just make a balls of it anyway. There's something deeply depressing about that place, if there's anywhere on campus going to be haunted in 100 years time i'd say that's the spot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 256 ✭✭stolenwine

Did he say anything like -"I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this" or "Is that crazy enough for ya'? Want me to take a **** on the floor? ":p

On another note Career services don't reply to emails and are bad at sending out promised information,in my experience.

all this talk about 911 is angering me.. when will people realise the place is a total sh!thole? if you want a quality roll or sandwhich in ucd, head to obriens, the grind or the sandwhich bar on the ground level of the ucd restaurant... (we call it roly's :))

And if you want one before next week, scratch O'Brien's off that list. I can't fault The Grind. Sure, the woman is a little intimidating to put it mildly, but the selection is good, the food fresh, the service fast and the price cheap.

no complaint at all in UCD for me,i think they are fine, maybe not great ,but not rude either.

HOWEVER,i hate to talk or deal with the manager of the Elements, while i also feel that many of the stuffs in the elements dont really 'respect' the customer that much.it's just a feeling ,like they way they ask and talk ,their voice ,facial expression etc.i dunno, maybe it is the most restaurant-liked restaurant in UCD,i expect more...

I have very rarely had any bad experiences with UCD staff. In fact, I have always found them to be very friendly (if a little disarrayed).

On the other hand, I've always found the Trinity staff to be passive aggressive at best. Some of them are just looking for a fight.

Incompetent staff could be a new tread but would run into the hundreds.

Up until recently I had no complaints to make about the Grind; that is until I found out that the reason the roll I was eating on that day was so cold, was because the
chicken in it was completely frozen. Each piece was covered in ice. After complaining the lady at the counter pretty much just told me where to go!

I always am amused by them, I remember one sunday morning seeing the staff refuse to sell a guy a roll they had made for him because he only had a 20e note.

Ya they freaked when I handed them a 50 last Sunday too... had to give me my change in 5's and then when the guy handed over a 10, she was like "have you got anything smaller"... scowled major time

And I hate coffee guy in 911. Its so freaking annoying when you've already spent ages queuing for a sandwich and then you gotta spend ages waiting to pay cos everyone wants a mocha latte with their sambo...

Out of interest, does anyone know when the tenancy for 911 is up? I'd love to try and get them booted out and have something better put in.

I can't understand why the staff are so moody there... are students really that bad?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1 squiggles32

The obviously unloved toe rag who served me the other day in the main restaurant was particularly red arsed to me in this instance. I bought the student special with a cup of coffee. As I approached the cashier to pay for my meal I was thrown back by the sheer attitude this mongrel displayed. She accused me of using the wrong cups for my coffee and questioned where did I get my extra chicken wings. Unless the capper did not realise after 20 years of service, I am not the one who prepares the plate of food, I am just the recipient. She charged me an extra 50c which I wznt bovved about. I only assume this woman is single and possibly suffered through out the years from her inability to produce children. A few days later she acted the maggot again to a fellow mate. Just letting the boi's up in boards.ie know that I am going to get this lonely cow back so hard, shes never going to forget the name John Gleeson

911 is awful. Went in on Saturday and they stocked up the rolls while we were waiting, from a cardboard box. Then the servers were pretty agressive when serving us. On top of that the rolls were stale and the lettuce was brown.

4.60 for the pleasure of a vile roll. Whatever about it being Saturday, theres still no excuse for awful food/service and rolls from a cardboard box.

911 is awful. The food is borderline disgraceful. Its always stale. I try not to eat there and this week I've decided to avoid it for my remaining time in UCD. The staff are also incredibly rude. Beyond a joke.

Last year I was walking through the car park at the Vet building when a RentoKill van rolls up and asks me "Any idea where the 911 shop is?" I wouldn't mind but I've seen them in again this year.
